As part of our sustained efforts to eliminate open defecation and improve public sanitation across Lagos State, we currently have 1,710 functioning public toilets strategically located across the state for residents and visitors. However, government cannot do this alone. We are encouraging businesses such as filling stations, banks, eateries, and other public-facing facilities to make their restrooms accessible to the public where possible. This collaborative approach will significantly complement government efforts and expand access to sanitation facilities across the state. At the same time, we continue to enforce environmental sanitation laws. Individuals caught engaging in open defecation are being arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. These measures are necessary to protect public health, preserve dignity, and maintain a cleaner environment for all. Access to sanitation is a shared responsibility. While government continues to expand infrastructure, residents and businesses must also play their part in ensuring Lagos remains clean, safe, and habitable. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Beggars constituting environmental and public nuisance were arrested yesterday along the Lekki–Epe Expressway and other surrounding areas. These enforcement actions are part of our ongoing efforts to restore order, protect public spaces, and ensure a cleaner and safer Lagos. We will continue to sustain these operations across the State, as no one is above the law. Lagos must work for everyone, and public spaces cannot be allowed to degenerate into zones of disorder. #CleanerLagos

While we continue to arrest and prosecute defaulters in accordance with the law, it is important to emphasise that lasting change goes beyond enforcement. Doing the right thing should not depend on the presence of enforcement officers. Environmental responsibility must become a personal and collective culture. Taking ownership of our environment means using available public toilets, discouraging open defecation, keeping public spaces clean, and holding one another accountable. A cleaner Lagos is not built only through enforcement, but through everyday decisions made by residents who understand that public hygiene protects everyone. When we act responsibly, even in the absence of enforcement teams, we move closer to building a cleaner, healthier, and more dignified Lagos for all. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

The whispers are gone. Climate change is here, and the water is at our doors. From Mumbai to Miami, from Dubai to Dublin, from Argentina to Australia, Toronto to Texas, cities around the world are facing a new reality – a reality of ferocious flash floods and towering tsunamis. The science is clear. Our planet is warming, causing erratic weather patterns and rising sea levels. This translates to heavier rainfall, more powerful storms, and a growing threat to coastal communities. We've seen it recently, haven't we?! The heart-wrenching images of entire neighborhoods underwater, the desperate struggle for survival against the unforgiving current. Closer to home, here in Lagos, we stand at a crossroad. We are a vibrant city, a center of commerce and culture. But we are also vulnerable. The rising sea level threatens our very foundation. Now is the time to act. We need robust flood defenses, and a collective commitment to sustainable environmental practices. We must protect our infrastructure, our homes, and most importantly, our people. Global warming is real. Ensure you keep your environment clean at all times and do not engage in any activity that can hinder the free flow of water. #CleanerLagos #HealthierLagos #AGreaterLagosRising The Lagos State Govt Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos KAI officials apprehended a man on Jibowu Bridge for attempting to sabotage public infrastructure by removing screws and nuts holding the bridge. He was promptly arraigned at the Oshodi Magistrate Court and sentenced to 4 months imprisonment. The Lagos State Government, through its enforcement agencies, remains committed to safeguarding public infrastructure. Acts of vandalism not only endanger lives but also undermine the collective progress of the state. Criminals seeking to destroy public assets will face the full wrath of the law. Lagos is determined to maintain its reputation as a state that prioritizes safety, order, and development. #ZeroToleranceLagos

Tomorrow morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, we begin a new chapter in our collective journey toward a cleaner Lagos. The monthly environmental sanitation exercise returns, and I am calling on every resident to come out and participate actively. Let me address the confusion some have tried to create. No court pronouncement has invalidated this exercise. The State proceeded to the Court of Appeal, and judgment was delivered in our favour. The Court affirmed that the laws used for the implementation and enforcement of environmental sanitation are legitimate and constitutional. So disregard those who choose to mislead the public. We have planned this for over a year. We have thought it through. We cannot keep complaining about dirty surroundings and blaming government while shirking our own responsibilities. The care of our environment is a collaborative project between government and citizens. Major transport unions controlling about 90% of vehicles on our roads have pledged not to deploy their vehicles from major parks during the sanitation window. If government vehicles are staying put, what will it cost us to stay home for just two hours to clean our environment? We are not unreasonable. Exceptions exist for emergencies, scheduled flights, and students writing JAMB exams. LAWMA has been fully mobilized to evacuate waste generated. Environmental health officers will monitor properties, and defaulters will be served abatement notices. Tomorrow, let us show Lagos and the world that we are ready to take ownership of our environment. Two hours. One Saturday each month. A cleaner, healthier, flood-free Lagos for all of us. #LagosSanitationExercise #CleanerLagos
