Tomorrow morning between 6:30am and 8:30am, we begin a new chapter in our collective journey toward a cleaner Lagos. The monthly environmental sanitation exercise returns, and I am calling on every resident to come out and participate actively. Let me address the confusion some have tried to create. No court pronouncement has invalidated this exercise. The State proceeded to the Court of Appeal, and judgment was delivered in our favour. The Court affirmed that the laws used for the implementation and enforcement of environmental sanitation are legitimate and constitutional. So disregard those who choose to mislead the public. We have planned this for over a year. We have thought it through. We cannot keep complaining about dirty surroundings and blaming government while shirking our own responsibilities. The care of our environment is a collaborative project between government and citizens. Major transport unions controlling about 90% of vehicles on our roads have pledged not to deploy their vehicles from major parks during the sanitation window. If government vehicles are staying put, what will it cost us to stay home for just two hours to clean our environment? We are not unreasonable. Exceptions exist for emergencies, scheduled flights, and students writing JAMB exams. LAWMA has been fully mobilized to evacuate waste generated. Environmental health officers will monitor properties, and defaulters will be served abatement notices. Tomorrow, let us show Lagos and the world that we are ready to take ownership of our environment. Two hours. One Saturday each month. A cleaner, healthier, flood-free Lagos for all of us. #LagosSanitationExercise #CleanerLagos

Additionally, 21 beggars were apprehended during separate operations carried out at Ikorodu Garage and along the Ikeja axis. When people say Lagos is dirty, Lagos smells, it's not a ficticious statement - if anything, it is the sum total of our collective irresponsibility. Indiscriminate dumping of waste, blocking of drainage channels, open defecation, how would Lagos not be dirty?! The Lagos State Govt will not tolerate any form of indiscipline and indiscriminate waste disposal; there is a system of collection, use it. Flouting the rules will now carry grave consequences. Dispose your waste properly. Patronize your assigned PSP operator. Desist from defecating/urinating on the road side. #CleanerLagos

On 13 March 2025, at approximately 7:47 a.m., an individual identified as Nwakwo Patient was observed illegally dumping refuse at Alimosho Bus Stop along New Ipaja Road. Further investigations at her residence confirmed the absence of a designated waste storage facility. While the suspect claimed to be registered with the Private Sector Participant (PSP) operator servicing the area, she was unable to provide any supporting evidence of such registration or payment for waste collection services. The suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 to ensure compliance with waste management regulations. This afternoon, we commenced the cleaning of McGregor Channel in Obalende as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure a flood-free Lagos. Keeping our drainage channels clear is crucial as we prepare for the rainy season. A clean and efficient drainage system protects lives, property, and infrastructure. I urge all residents to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal and take ownership of their environment. A cleaner Lagos is a collective responsibility! #CleanerLagos

I am pleased to inform all Lagosians that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will resume effective Saturday, 25th April 2026, holding on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30AM to 8:30 AM. During this period, residents are enjoined to clean their surroundings, clear drainage channels in their frontages, and dispose of waste properly as a civic responsibility. This exercise is a collective responsibility and a vital part of our commitment to a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient Lagos. And it shall be backed with the full enforcement weight of the Lagos State Government. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

I met with Adetokunbo Ogunnoiki 21 🫧 , a young graduate of mathematics from the University of Ibadan, and his startup partner Ademola Gbadero, after his viral post on X caught my attention. They proposed a tech platform that uses geo mapping to help Lagosians locate clean and available public toilets in real time, with features like cleanliness ratings, walking directions, and estimated arrival times. They have already deployed a similar solution on their university campus with success. I invited them in, listened to their presentation alongside the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, and the Director of Sanitation Services, Dr. Hassan Sanuth. Fascinated by the idea and impressed by their depth of work, I approved the proposal on the spot and requested a comprehensive budget for the next meeting in a few days. This project will further bolster our drive for a cleaner Lagos under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration. We welcome objective criticism that offers solutions, not outright condemnation, insults and curses. Governance is about collective solutions and empowering the next generation. #AGreaterLagosRising

Following a whistleblower complaint, I directed the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office team to visit the Access Bank Plc Access Bank Plc building at Oniru, Victoria Island, where it was discovered that the wastewater treatment plant at the facility was non-functional, resulting in the discharge of untreated faecal matter into the public drainage system and causing severe damage to the environment. During the enforcement visit, officials of LSWMO were denied access to seal the facility. Security personnel and management representatives of the bank resisted our officers and, in the process, attacked members of the enforcement team. Consequently, the LSWMO team has taken samples of the effluent being discharged from the premises for laboratory analysis and result of test came back positive. The State will also proceed to court to obtain the necessary orders for the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in the attack on government officials carrying out their lawful duties. Meanwhile, enforcement officers will be reinforced to return and seal off the property tonight in line with the Lagos State Environmental Laws. There will be NO SACRED COWS in the enforcement of environmental regulations. Any individual or organisation found violating environmental laws, regardless of status, will be held accountable. #CleanerLagos #GreaterLagos

Yesterday, at about 2030hrs, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce/anti-crime squad arrested a suspect for attacking and forcibly demanded money from an innocent citizen whose vehicle broke down along the Oshodi-Iyana Ipaja Road, together with his gang members who are presently at large. The suspect was detained and will be arraigned as soon as possible. #ZeroToleranceLagos

Global warming has had an adverse effect on rain patterns; as warmer air results in more evaporation of water from land. A warmer atmosphere can also hold more water vapor which, in turn increases average rainfall and therefore flooding. Global warming is real! Ensure you keep your environment clean at all times and do not engage in any activity that can hinder the free flow of water. #CleanerLagos #HealthierLagos #AGreaterLagosRising

Yesterday, I met with Peteru 'Omo Iya Eleja' in my office and I was truly inspired by this young man. He took to the streets encouraging residents to clean their surroundings during the monthly sanitation exercise, driven purely by a sense of civic duty and community responsibility. He told me that a clean environment is directly tied to public health and that doing his country job requires no financial reward. This is the spirit that built Lagos and this is the spirit that will sustain a #CleanerLagos and a #GreaterLagos. The story of Peteru should inspire all of us. We celebrate him.
