The French mountain infantry soldiers (chasseurs alpins) wear a distinctive piece of headgear: an oversized beret they call "la tarte" (the pie). Its wide wool design offers practical protection against cold, sun and snow, and the shape allows versatile use in field conditions. Saumur 🇫🇷 museum's Tiger 1 continued restoration now moving under its own power. Restoration began in 2024. This Tiger 1 is the only surviving example to retain all of its original components. It saw combat in Normandy from July 7, 1944, fighting British forces around Vire, Falaise and Vimoutiers before being abandoned in August 1944. It was later briefly reused by the French Army against the German pockets around Saint-Nazaire in 1945.
