Andrew Abbott has a 6.59 ERA over 28 IP this season.. He had a 2.87 ERA over 166 IP last season… Andrew threw the ball with the muscles of motor tract 1 last season… He’s using motor tract 5 muscles this season… Watch how differently his left arm and left pec region move through his delivery… Consciously, he’s just throwing the ball….subconsciously his vestibulospinal tract (and others) are signaling different muscles to move his body…. MT5 on left vs MT1 on right

Fernando Tatis was hitting .342 with 8 HR’s on May 3, 2025…. He’s hitting .261 with 0 HR’s on May 3, 2026… Anybody with eyes can see his body is moving differently…. Anybody that understands neuroanatomy knows why he he’s moving differently…. The muscles that move our shoulder girdle are part of the extrapyramidal motor tracts….This means they are “controlled” subconsciously…. Consciously, Fernando is just hitting….Subconsciously his central nervous system is only allowing him to use his rhomboid minor and 1/3 of his serratus anterior… It’s always the strangest things that change the motor tracts and it has nothing to do with hitting.

Here’s a good look at what the Nationals “new focus on technology” has done to James Wood’s swing… James is using the muscles of motor tract 5 on both sides of his body this season. (He hit .125 this spring after going 0-4 with 4 K’s last night) He used the muscles of motor tract 1 on both sides last May when he hit .330 with 7 HR’s. Dylan Crews (.103) and Jacob Young (.125) have used the same motor tract 5 muscles on both sides of their body this spring as well.

If order to hit a big league fastball your brain needs to decide to pull the trigger roughly 25 feet from the ball reaching the plate…. In order to do that, your eyes must be oriented at a spot 25 feet to your left for a righty or 25 feet to your right if you are a lefty…. This begs the question what is the point of hitting off of a tee?…The body will never work the same vs a live ball…. Look how different Mike Trout looks when hitting off of a tee vs hitting a live ball…Watch his left arm and left shoulder do completely different things. The right forearm supinates vs an overhand pitch but it pronates vs the tee…. It’s a function of where the biceps inserts onto the radius. There isn’t a hitter on earth that will use the same swing mechanics off of a tee as they will vs an overhand pitch.

Kyren Paris has hit .157 with 7 HR’s in his first 217 big league at bats…. Albert Pujols hit .354 with 20 HR’s in his first 217 big league at bats… Kyren Paris hits with the muscles of motor tract 5 on his right side… Albert Pujols hit with the muscles of motor tract 1 on his right side…. MT1 uses the pec major to internally rotate the humerus towards contact… MT1 uses 5 uses the latissimus dorsi to medially rotate the humerus towards contact… Watch their rear shoulder/chest area at front foot heel strike and you will see just how different they are moving.

Mike Trout was a career .301 hitter entering the 2024 season… He’s hit a combined .230 the last 2 years… Trout went from using the muscles of motor tract 1 on his right side to using motor tract 5…. His entire rights side uses different muscles because of it….Watch how different his head moves in each instance…. You can also notice a difference in the thumb muscle securing the bat along with the neck muscle that rotates his head. Cranial nerve 11 innervates the sternocleidomastoid muscle along with the trapezius muscle…..MT 1 uses the sternocleidomastoid as the primary neck rotator…..MT5 uses the trapezius as the primary neck rotator of the neck.
