For the first time ever, an Amtrak NextGen Acela train just pulled up to Union Station. It had left Boston at 6 AM this morning, taking roughly 7 hours to make the entire trip.

The president announced today work to make the reflecting pool “American flag blue” is wrapping up. Court records the Interior Department filed today indicate crews will start filling the pool with water again on Sunday at the latest. The video shows them doing some final checks.

Huge crowds at the Smithsonian Metro station at this hour. Normally 8:45 would only be about a half hour before the fireworks, but with the change this year, we are still likely almost 2 hours away from the start. #wmata

This is the first “Late Night Hype” of the summer in DC. The Department of Parks and Rec has put these on since 2021 to give teenagers something positive to do. DPR will host weekly events like this for teens until September.

Traffic headed to Reagan National Airport is backed up a half mile onto Rt. 1 - if you are traveling by car, I would plan on at least an extra hour, maybe more, just to get to the terminals. Taking Metro - even if you drop folks off 1 stop away from DCA - is a way to avoid this

Some DC city leaders are upset after Politico reported that the US DOT wants to ban speed, red light, and other traffic enforcement cameras in the District. City data shows this speed camera on New York Ave. near North Capitol St. has given out more than 10,000 tickets since Oct.

DMV officials are warning drivers to be extra careful as roads are still not back to normal, and many merge areas like the one at this exit from DCA onto Route 1 are still mostly covered in snow. If you go out into traffic too fast you could hit someone.

In Silver Spring Maryland Governor Wes Moore &amp; other officials just pounded in the final rails for the entire 16-mile project in Montgomery &amp; Prince George’s. There’s still a lot of work to be done installing overhead wires &amp; testing. It’s expected to open late next year.

Metro says since Sunday, May 24 they have given out 740 bus fare evasion tickets and have made 46 arrests as part of a crackdown on Metrobus. In some cases officers are going onto buses and pulling people off who were seen on security camera evading the fare elsewhere. #wmata

Here is a look inside one of the new NextGen Acela trains. Amtrak says upgrades include free 5G Wi-Fi, plus you no longer have to reach over someone to plug something in if you have an aisle seat. There are plugs and USB ports in between each set of seats.

Right now at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, volunteers are packing more than 2000 Christmas dinners that will be delivered to many people in need in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. This is the 50th year they’ve done this here!

NEW: Video from Virginia Passenger Rail Authority that shows how the new Long Bridge for trains and a parallel bridge for pedestrians &amp; bikers will be constructed over the Potomac River. Major construction work is expected to start next year, currently the projected completion date is 2030.
