After I confronted the captain of the Carnival Splendor, he immediately dismissed my concerns about low pay, excessive working hours, and crew access to water and WiFi. During the exchange, I informed the captain that I’d be attending the ship’s “behind the scenes” tour, which gives guests access to crew-only areas. Today, that tour was cancelled for every paying passenger onboard. If Carnival stands by its treatment of crew, why avoid scrutiny? What does Carnival have to hide?

$2.50 an hour, up to 14-hour days, months away from family, no proper days off and pressure to keep working even when sick. These are just some of the appalling conditions former Carnival crew members have shared with me. That’s why I’m aboard the Carnival Splendor - to listen, investigate and shine a light on what life is really like for the crew who make these holidays possible. #carnival #carnivalcruise #australia

After 3 days aboard, Carnival Splendor felt less like a floating cruise and more like a floating sweatshop. Low pay, months without a proper day off, pressure to work while sick, harassment and intimidation when crew try to speak up - these are just some of the stories I've been hearing over the past 3 days. On my final day, I was harassed by repeated calls to my room’s internal phone after I started asking questions. If this is what happens to paying passengers, what do you think happens to crew members who speak up? The Carnival crew needs a union agreement. They have agreements on their vessels around the world, so why not here?

University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Alex Zelinsky took a $70,000 pay rise last year, taking his salary to near $1 million. At the same time the university recorded a $38 million deficit, had to pay $6.2 million back in wage theft and have been trying to ram through a real wage cut for staff.

DP World refuses to give a fair pay rise to their workers, despite making $4.5 billion over the last 8 years while raising their fees by 300% and paying $0 in corporate tax. Their executives weren't too keen to answer any questions about their tax record at today's hearing on the Closing Loopholes bill.

Pauline Hanson’s cheap, deplorable stunts only fuel hatred and division - they have no place in our community. But don’t let it distract you from One Nation’s equally abysmal voting record (along with the Liberals and Nationals) for helping everyday working Australians.

Dutton’s fuel excise plan is a stale, reheated leftover from the Morrison Govt, offering no real economic relief for Australians. But don’t just take it from us, hear it from the Coalition’s own “genius” leaders, who’ve always rubbished this very policy…until now. #budget #dutton #auspol

$120 million for selling tickets on cancelled flights. $120 million for illegally sacking workers. $90 million penalty. And now another $105 million for failing to properly refund customers during COVID-19. Qantas continues to suffer from the Alan Joyce hangover.
