As more details come to light in the targeting of Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif, it appears the situation has been highly orchestrated. The latest development involves the Russian delegate to UN Security Council meeting on 'Women, Peace and Security' using the stage to accuse the Olympics of being monopolised by the west and pushing an LGBTQ agenda. Khelif will fight for gold in Paris on Friday against China's Yang Liu. #politics #Paris2024 #Olympics #boxing #agenda #sport #womeninsport

Sex testing is back for the Olympics; u-turn on inclusion first as a starting point. While the science is contested, the IOC says this is done with science and athlete consensus at its heart. Some who work in safeguarding and human rights disagree. #sextesting #Olympics #safeguarding #inclusion

Without the fans…there would be no ticket sales, no television coverage, no sponsorship nor increased salaries. The day after losing 1-0 to Japan in a gallant, hard fought final of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the fans stood in the hot sun at Tumbalong Park waiting for an hour to cheer on their heroes and to let them know they support them no matter what. It’s a shame the players couldn’t share some of the same enthusiasm. It is completely understandable that losing sucks, but today was the day to say thanks to the fans. What’s the old saying, ‘Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat’? That’s the mark of true professionals. #matildas #afc #woso #gracious #fans

Want to know the bigger picture about the #geopolitics and #culture war drama that is being played out at the expense of one boxer? Australian Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong was asked by The Sports Ambassador on Friday for a response to the dangerous situation faced by Iran women's footballers #AsianCup2027, she repeated her position on ABC #Insiders today. The Australian government is limited by being able to respond only if an approach is made by the women themselves, incredibly difficult when minders won't let them out of their sight and hotel staff have been instructed not to let 'outsiders' talk to them.
