The media has not bothered to thoroughly fact check Hansons National Press Club address so I’ve done it for them. 18 false and / or misleading statements. John Paul Janke was the journalist who pushed back on her claims and Sarah Martin questioned her about her daughters position as campaign advisor (rightly so) and was called a “trashy journalist” by Hanson and told she would be banned from future pressers. Nothing else was challenged by the so called journalists in attendance and she continues to be unchallenged on the facts in every interview she sits.

Pauline Hanson has suddenly become the barometer of intelligence according to One Nation supporters on my feed. This is someone who called Trump “Senator,” struggled to pronounce Netanyahu, claimed Trump has “freed” Iranians by bombing them, (including schoolgirls) called for Australia to join an illegal war, couldn’t understand how submarines work while sitting on the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee, didn’t understand election promise costings, has been objectively found by Australian courts to be racist, and in 30 years has not introduced a single piece of successful legislation to fix one thing she’s spent three decades whingeing about. 9.1 million people watched a Rear Admiral have to school her on how submarines work when she sat on a defence and trade legislative committee. Yes-about defence! The bar for leadership is seriously underground for this lot. And One Nation supporters flooding my feed with insults and abuse. That’s all they’ve got. No argument. No facts. Just noise. The videos are doing the rounds. You’re welcome.

I received this message via Instagram DM this week: “G’Day. I listened to your dialogue on ‘Conversations’ last week… As a retired Mental Health Nurse [NZ Scotland WA] I found your comments interesting… I note you state you are a ‘Proud Nyamal Woman.’ I would remind you half of your genes came from your SCOTTISH FATHER… This, I would suggest is where you gained your inspiration, passion, self belief, and psychological stamina to achieve your goals. Why do you not acknowledge this but always push the indigenous barrel??” I’m sharing this not because it’s unusual. I’m sharing it because it’s not. Aboriginal people are the only cultural group in this country whose identity is routinely challenged, questioned, and policed by strangers. If I told you I was Greek, you’d say “that’s great, tell me about it.” If I told you I was Italian, you’d ask where my family was from. But when I say I’m a proud Nyamal woman, I get asked: “Yeah, but how Aboriginal are you?” This person listened to a single radio interview and decided he knew enough to tell me that my achievements come from my “Scottish side” — not from the culture, community, and identity that has shaped every part of who I am and the work I do. He didn’t just question my identity. He ranked it. He decided which half of me was worth something. Let me be clear about something. No one gets to allocate where my strength comes from. No one gets to divide me into the parts they’re comfortable with and discard the rest. And no one gets to tell me that I’m “pushing the Indigenous barrel” for being proud of who I am. This is what identity-policing looks like. It’s not always overt racism. Sometimes it comes wrapped in “I found your comments interesting” and a suggestion that you should be grateful for the “right genes”. Aboriginal people deal with this constantly. We are asked to justify, quantify, and prove our identity in ways that no other culture in this country is subjected to. And it has real consequences — it undermines cultural identity, it isolates people from community, and it reinforces the very assimilation mindset that once required my mother to attend court in Port Hedland in 1964 just to obtain a citizenship certificate in her own country. I spoke about this exact issue in conversation with Stan Grant at the Sydney Opera House. The fact that I received this message the same week I posted that video on my platforms tells you everything about how far we still have to go. I am a proud Nyamal woman. That is not a barrel I push. It is who I am. #AboriginalIdentity #IndigenousAustralia #CulturalIdentity #IdentityPolicing #FirstNations #AboriginalPride

Children should NOT be in prison. I have long been a firm advocate of #raisingtheage of criminal responsibility. I explained why in last weeks “In conversation” with Stan Grant at the Sydney Opera House-when I was asked about this. You can view the video here and don’t forget you can order my memoir Jilya by googling “Jilya book” or at any book store! I also wrote more about the scientific reasons why we need to raise the age in this article for IndigenousX:
