Jarred Kelenic is red-hot, including a week in which he hit 4 HRs in 4 consecutive days. After batting practice today, we talked about what has changed. Kelenic, 26, is a former first-round draft pick of the Mets who has had over 1,300 at bats in the past 5 seasons with the Mariners and the Braves, with modest results given his pedigree. The White Sox are hoping they can help Kelenic unleash his massive potential. I have to think he’ll get an extended look in Chicago at some point this season, especially if he stays on this current heater. Interestingly, the Charlotte Knights do not have any position players on the 40-man roster, as opposed 10 pitchers. FutureSox

Top 2025 draft pick Billy Carlson has heated up in May with the weather in the Carolinas, hitting .301 with a .410 OBP, 13 walks and 22 strikeouts. We chatted after last night’s Ballers’ win, in which Billy had 2 singles, 2 walks, 3 runs, a sac fly and 2 stolen bases. Sox coaches tell me there’s a lot of pop in Billy’s bat, and is only a matter of time till it shows itself. Manager Jayson Nix told me “Billy is wiry strong, whippy. I know he doesn’t have a HR but he’s really impacted some balls, especially the other way. You can see it. The power is in there.” FutureSox

Hagen Smith said today that last night’s impressive results were the result of raising his arm slot back to where it had been previously. The change in his arm slot was the result of work he did this week with White Sox Director of Pitching Brian Bannister, who has been in Charlotte for the past few days, and Knights’ Pitching Coach Scott Aldred. The changes were dramatic. Smith has struggled with his control this season, until last night, when he walked just 1 hitter, had fewer deep counts and, as a result, had his longest outing of the season, at 5 innings. The change in arm slot also had another benefit. Smith said it enabled him to maintain his velocity deeper into the game. FutureSox

Knights will open with a 5-man rotation, says manager Chad Pinder. Hagan Smith gets the ball on opening day this Friday, followed by Duncan Davitt & Tanner McDougal. Noah Schultz & Jonathan Cannon round out the rotation. No word yet on when we will see David Sandlin in Charlotte. FutureSox
