Clayface is proof that some of Batman’s most tragic villains are the ones you almost feel sorry for. 💔 In Batman: The Animated Series, Matt Hagen’s story in the two-part episode “Feat of Clay” is genuinely heartbreaking. Before becoming the monstrous shape-shifter known as Clayface, Hagen was a successful actor whose appearance was central to his career. After an accident leaves his face disfigured, he becomes dependent on a dangerous experimental substance that allows him to maintain his looks. But the temporary solution comes at a horrifying cost. His body begins to transform into something he can barely control, and the man who once made a living pretending to be someone else gradually loses control over his own identity. That’s what makes this version of Clayface so disturbing. He can imitate practically anyone, change his face at will, and become almost anything — yet he can’t simply return to being himself. The scene where his body starts warping uncontrollably isn’t just a frightening display of his powers. It’s a man desperately trying to hold on to the last pieces of his humanity.#Clayface

People act like Batman needs to overpower Clayface, and that's exactly where they're missing the point. Batman doesn't fight Clayface like a normal villain. He fights the weakness behind the powers. In the comics, Batman has used freezing agents and specialised technology to immobilise Clayface, exploiting the limitations of his malleable body. He's also capable of using his environment to his advantage rather than engaging in a straight-up brawl. And let's be honest, Batman has defeated far more dangerous opponents by understanding how they operate, not by being physically stronger. Clayface is terrifying, but he's not invincible. The real question isn't whether Batman can beat him, but whether he can figure out how before Clayface gets close enough to kill him.#Clayface Batman: Hush🎬

Haters can hate, but I’m with Batman for stopping that procedure. And I know this take will be controversial. 👀 On one hand, Hagen deserved a chance to regain his life and use his new powers to live normally. But on the other hand, THE FORMULA WAS UNTESTED. Nobody knew the side effects or what it could do to his mind. Imagine making someone who’s already unstable even more insane while giving him the power to reshape his entire body. And what if he decided to infect all of Gotham and turn its citizens into Clayfaces? Batman wasn’t necessarily denying Hagen a second chance. He was preventing a potentially uncontrollable disaster. Would you still blame Batman if that procedure turned all of Gotham into Clayfaces?#Clayface
