#UPDATE: The 4th batch of Ugandan nationals being voluntarily repatriated from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, has successfully completed the boarding process and is now ready for departure to Entebbe. The flight forms part of Government of Uganda’s ongoing voluntary repatriation exercise to safely return Ugandans affected by the recent unrest in South Africa. This afternoon, Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth (MP), Speaker Parliament of Uganda safely arrived in Johannesburg 🇿🇦 for his first official visit outside Uganda since assuming office. The Speaker and his delegation were graciously received by H.E. Amb. Paul Amoru, Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, accompanied by officials from Uganda High Commission | Pretoria ahead of the 10th #CSPOC, which officially kicks off tomorrow.

Earlier today, Rt. Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth (MP), Speaker Parliament of Uganda, accompanied by H.E. Amb. Paul Amoru, met with the leadership of the Ugandan community in South Africa led by the President of the Confederation of Ugandans in Southern Africa (COUSA). The meeting focused on the welfare, safety and security of Ugandans living in South Africa, particularly in light of the recent attacks targeting foreign nationals and growing concerns within migrant communities. The Speaker reaffirmed the Government of Uganda’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and listened to concerns raised by the leaders regarding the situation on the ground. Discussions also covered the detailed report which the High Commission has sent to Kampala with key recommendations which the Rt. Hon. Speaker pledged to follow and ensure Parliament works closely with the executive through the available government channels to achieve actionable solutions to the situation of affected Ugandans in South Africa.
