ROSALÍA interrupts her show in Milan and cancels it after not feeling well. It is the first time in her career that she cancels a performance due to health reasons. “I tried to do this show from the very beginning even though I’ve been sick. I’ve had, like, really severe food poisoning and I tried to push through until the end, but I’m feeling extremely unwell. I’ve been throwing up backstage, and I really want to give the best show, and I’m basically on the floor trying my best. I can try to continue, but at some point I might have to stop. I’m extremely sick, and I’m really trying, I’ll push as much as I can, but if we have to stop, we might have to if I physically can’t continue. I’m in pain.”

ROSALÍA says her biggest fear is losing her older sister, Pili. “I think that nowadays, the greatest tragedy would be losing my sister. Losing Pili. Yeah. Pili is my best friend. She’s three years older than me. Mhm… Pili reads… I mean, Pili reads a lot. And she always shows me good things. And… well, Pili is my best friend, you know? She has always been there. I know life because… I’ve always been with Pili. I arrived and she was already there, and she has always been. And… yes, she’s the person I love the most in this world.”

The president of Sony Music Iberia accepted the Artist of the Year award on behalf of ROSALÍA tonight and dedicated a few words to the singer and the audience at the ceremony: “Well, this is quite embarrassing. As those who know me well can imagine, this is the last place I would want to be today. Good evening, dear colleagues and friends from the music industry. Tonight, thanks to this little device, I had the privilege of sharing this incredible evening we were experiencing with a truly unique artist. She asked me to please thank all of you for this recognition. We did everything possible for her to be here tonight, but if you follow her, you already know her schedule is absolutely impossible to manage. And although I can promise you that we tried until the very last moment, today she could not be here with us. And I assure you, the person who regrets that the most is me, because otherwise she would be here instead of me. If you allow me, I would like to read a very short text, because I believe this has been a year all of us will remember. I remember perfectly the first time our team listened to ‘LUX'. It was a feeling very difficult to explain. The immediate intuition that we were witnessing something absolutely extraordinary. One of those albums that not only dazzles you artistically, but also changes you, moves you, and stays with you long after listening to it. I’m sure many of you felt the same way. Receiving this award today on behalf of ROSALÍA is, first and foremost, an immense honor for Sony Music and for me, because beyond her enormous talent, there is an artist with a very rare sensitivity, discipline, and creative vision. But beyond that, she is also an incredibly generous, warm, and human person, and I believe everyone lucky enough to work with her can attest to that. ROSALÍA has had an enormous global impact and confirms something that, to me, is absolutely undeniable today: ROSALÍA has changed the way a Spanish artist, like all of you here tonight, can occupy the international cultural space. She has opened doors, expanded boundaries, and made it possible for an entirely new generation, much of which is with us tonight, to dream much further. Thank you very much to the Academy for this recognition on behalf of Sony and, of course, on behalf of ROSALÍA. And thank you as well, ROSALÍA, for sharing yourself with all of us and, in some way, allowing us to be part of this incredible universe. Thank you very much. Good night.”

ROSALÍA talks about what it was like to learn 13 languages to sing the songs on her new album “LUX”. “I speak a little Catalan because it’s my mother tongue. I speak a little Spanish and barely any English, but, you know… I love learning. I love learning things. So I wanted to learn different languages for a long time. I’ve been practicing on Duolingo, you know. But sometimes I’m like, ‘I need to do more.’ So while I was trying to figure out what the concept would be, because I was curious about learning from other cultures and how spirituality can be understood in many different places around the world in different ways, I was learning about different saints from all over the world. And I was reading, reading, reading so many hagiographies, hagiographies. Then I thought, ‘OK, let me put a map on the wall.’ Let me pin different stories, different women from around the world. And if I was making a song inspired by Joan of Arc, then I would do it in French. So depending on the story I wanted to reference, I would use one language or another. And then I would write about 20 different verse options and send them to a translator, a proper translator, get them back, tweak things, record, and then send them to people who would correct the pronunciation, all of it.”

ROSALÍA thanks for her first “Woman of the Year” award at the Billboard Awards and mentions Loli Bahia, her mother, her sister, Björk, and her former manager, Rebeca León, in her acceptance speech honoring the women who have passed through her life: “I want to thank my mother, Pilar, for giving me life; Pili for living it with me; Loli for existing; Alexa and Carlota, who always make me laugh and are always there. Thank you to Jodie, Sam, Jen, and Vivienne for always supporting me. Thank you to Rebeca for believing in me, and thank you to my entire team made up of women. Thank you to Caroline; to Angélica for being part of the looks; to Patti; to Björk for always inspiring me; and to so many others that, if I kept going, this speech would never end. Alexander McQueen once said, ‘I want people to fear the women I dress.’ And maybe that’s one of my greatest wishes: I would love for people to be afraid of the women who listen to my music. And I hope they can always feel free and unstoppable, because they are!”

ROSALÍA comments on the behind-the-scenes of the action scene with Zendaya in Euphoria: “I remember repeating to myself: focus, focus, because you’re shooting this with Zendaya and there’s probably only going to be one chance for them to splash us with all that blood, so you better nail it right away. Zendaya was so sweet, she made it so easy.”
