Every day, Coast Guard cutters are on patrol to secure our borders, disrupt cartels, and interdict illegal drugs before they reach American shores. Welcome home, CGC Munro! After a historic 119-day, 26,000-mile patrol, the Munro’s crew returned to Alameda, California following the single largest maritime drug seizure in 18 years. Through Operation Pacific Viper, they interdicted over 22,000 lbs of cocaine worth an estimated $250M, a record for our HITRON teams that keeps drugs off our streets. Spearheading the nation’s efforts to interdict dark fleet oil tankers, CGC Munro’s shadowed the Motor Tanker Bella 1 across the Atlantic, culminating in the vessel’s seizure. This morning, a U.S. Coast Guard tactical team, supported by U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy , boarded and seized Motor Tanker (M/T) Olina in international waters east of the Caribbean. Interagency coordination, and an unstoppable joint force, were instrumental in executing a safe, carefully orchestrated operation consistent with international law. Powered by unique law enforcement authorities and specialized capabilities, the Coast Guard is seizing sanctioned oil tankers and protecting the American people from threats on the high seas. M/T Olina is the latest example. Bravo Zulu to our maritime fighting force – and our partners at Department of War 🇺🇸 and Department of State – for their relentless execution of this mission. The Coast Guard continues operations to control, secure, and defend U.S. borders and maritime approaches – where defense of America begins. #USCG #WeOwnTheSea
