Just two weeks after the of World War II, an American B-29 crashed in the remote mountains of Akita Prefecture. In a moment that could have been defined by animosity, local villagers chose extraordinary compassion, rescuing and caring for the surviving American airman. That single act of humanity helped plant the seeds of today's U.S.-Japan Alliance. Deputy Chief of Mission Aaron Snipe visited the memorial monument to honor this powerful history. He and Daisuke Takahashi, the Japanese explorer who rediscovered the crash site, shine a light on this remarkable story.
