Delighted that the Assembly has tonight backed Andy Allen MBE MLA motion alongside other Unionist colleagues in supporting service leavers, veterans and their families. Those who serve our country should never face disadvantage when accessing healthcare, housing, education or employment. Their skills and sacrifices enrich our society and economy. This motion calls for full implementation of the Armed Forces Covenant in Northern Ireland, including the appointment of departmental Armed Forces liaison officers and stronger collaboration with employers, education providers and veterans’ organisations. A shared and inclusive society must ensure no one is left behind, especially those who’ve served. Watch below ⬇️

Earlier today, 48 members of the Assembly voted against the UUP motion calling on the Justice minister to ensure that biological males are not placed in woman’s prisons. After the vote, Ulster Unionist Party Justice spokesperson, Doug Beattie MC MLA commented. “Those who voted against our motion today have voted against protecting women in prisons. They have stated that men sharing prison spaces with vulnerable women is acceptable. I, my party and the majority of people across Northern Ireland do not agree with them.” #MakeNIWork
