I took my ass to Cinegear Expo in LA to do some boots-on-the-ground journalism and ask about the FX3II. Here’s what the Sony rep had to say about that:

With everyone complaining about the lighting, I think it’s genuinely a misunderstanding. The lighting is fine! The grade is super flat. Wonder if any movie ever has updated its grade mid-screenings or if that would be too costly to re-distribute.

“They shot Heated Rivalry for $5 and a dream” when actually they used some of the most expensive cameras on earth (ARRI Alexa 35) and had a full camera team. It may be low-budget compared to (for example) Stranger Things, but it’s not THAT low. #heatedrivarly #cinematography

Let’s talk about the lighting in Heated Rivalry and why it stands out among a lot of shows/movies in the romance genre. #heatedrivalry #cinematography

Breaking down the club scene in Heated Rivalry shot-by-shot. Hands down my most requested video. #cinematography #heatedrivalry

Heated Rivalry used Panavision T-Series anamorphic lenses to give the show a movie-like feel, but these lenses have their own quirks and limitations. (Also - let’s not talk about the last clip, whoops!) #heatedrivarly #cinematography

Breaking the 4th wall to talk about THE WALL: Heated Rivalry’s use of virtual production and their block-shot schedule. #heatedrivalry #cinematography

Let’s talk about how Heated Rivalry made the most of their limited resources by blocking the shots in clever ways. #cinematography #heatedrivalry

The 3-minute long oner in Heated Rivalry’s finale almost happened a different way. #heatedrivarly #cinematography

Heated Rivalry has a lot of mirrors, windows, and helmets. So how do we not see the camera? It’s a VFX technique called “painting out” … well … sometimes. Thanks to camera operator James Poremba for the inside scoop! #cinematography #HeatedRivalry

“There’s a problem in our industry that the more you kill yourself for a movie, the braver you are and that’s bullshit. We can do our jobs and we can live our lives, and the more fully we are able to live our lives… the better we can do our jobs.”

This is my latest filmmaking reel! I specialize in colorful and polished imagery with an emphasis on showcasing diverse voices. There's a key on the bottom left for whether I was the director, cinematographer, or both! If you'd like to work with me:

Long takes (or “oners”) in Heated Rivalry are a creative choice, not a budget constraint. #cinematography #heatedrivalry

Here’s some of what I’ve made recently! The letters on the bottom indicate if I was the Director (D), Cinematographer (C), or both (DC). I specialize in colorful imagery that showcases diverse voices across fiction, documentary, reality, music video, and commercial.

Here’s a visual of what I look like to aid those who followed me recently for my detailed cinematic lighting breakdowns! Thank you for your attention to this important matter!

New directing & cinematography reel, same intro (because obviously).

Realized someone had to get footage of the growing Heated Rivalry Effect, and it might as well be me! Here’s a small sampling of what I’ve been filming for the last 3 months:

Keyframe the end of a clip in Premiere Pro without having the whole timeline jump to the next clip:
