To Van Gogh, every tree called for a different brushstroke. Each one inspired a different way of painting. Olive trees became expressive, with twisting trunks reflected in energetic, swirling brushstrokes. Blossoming fruit trees in Arles (FR) were painted with a lighter palette and in an Impressionistic style. His later paintings of blossoming trees were even inspired by Japanese prints. By changing his technique, Vincent wasn't just painting trees, he was capturing what made each one unique.

Theo’s support gave Vincent the chance to become an artist. While Vincent struggled to find his place in life, Theo believed in him, emotionally and financially. His encouragement and support allowed Vincent to fully focus on learning to draw and paint, long before anyone else recognised his talent. ‘I hope to do as much as I can to help you,’ Theo wrote to his brother. #vangogh #vangoghmuseum #brothers
