I lost my dad, my family home, and our entire town on wedneday. These decades old photos among the rubble and ash. I shouldn’t have to justify our grief, but this is 2025. Idk maybe have some humanity and decency, it’s in ever scarcer supply these days. I never thought I’d see the politicization and lack of empathy - from both sides. my dad was a veteran, a distinguished professor, a husband to my mom for 50 years, a humble and decent guy. My mom worked as a bank teller in the Wells Fargo village (now caruso-ville) or as a librarian at the local school to make ends meet. They had an insurance policy for $1,900 worth of jewelry, each piece accounted for. I’m not gonna preach, but just share my experience- this is the kind of people, whose misery and unthinkable tragedy exist here in the ruins of what once was an amazing little neighborhood. (And no, there is no CA)
