Remember this girl who was repeatedly seen arguing with police officers during the protests in Delhi? Her name is Shivani Gautam. Shivani presents herself as an independent journalist and a voice of impartiality. In one of her videos, she claimed that the BJP IT Cell had approached her with an offer to make paid videos. She exposed the offer publicly, presenting it as an example of political attempts to pay journalists for content. But here’s what happened when Shivani received a similar offer in the name of the SP. Instead of exposing the offer, Shivani expressed interest in the collaboration and even shared her mobile number for further communication. 3/

After this expose, some 'independent journalists' have started claiming that these emails are AI-generated. Shivani Gautam also made the same claim in a video. I’m posting a recording of my email exchange with Shivani Gautam, captured directly from my PC screen. AI ko itna bhi badnam na karo.

Look at this guy walking around Jantar Mantar with a press card around his neck and a microphone in his hand, supposedly covering the protest. But instead of reporting what is happening, he is mocking the police. He is saying that he is not being allowed to protest and that he wants to protest. He has forgotten one thing, he is here as a journalist, not as a protester. This is exactly how some people are using press cards as a shield, a way to protect themselves from police action. Once they have that shield, they feel free to say whatever they want. They are not there to report the event. They are there to push their personal views and political agenda under the label of journalism.

This is content creator Alka Maurya. Her profile features numerous videos against the BJP, she is invited to cover Rahul Gandhi’s 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme, where she takes on the role of a journalist and receives a media pass. When I emailed her with an offer to create political content for the SP, she quoted ₹50,000 for a single reel. The issue isn’t that content creators are charging money to make videos. but Why pretend to be neutral and independent while blurring the line between journalism and paid political promotion? 4/

Meet Zaish Malik. He is actively covering the protests, microphone in hand and press card around his neck, presenting himself as an impartial voice for the common people. But when approached with an offer to create political content for the Political Party, he was also willing to discuss the proposal. So much for the image of independent journalism! 4/

Watch both of these videos. During the protest at Jantar Mantar, Nishu Azad’s father, Sanjay Kumar, was recording a video of Swatantra Bhardwaj and his friend on his mobile phone. Swatantra objected and struck the phone. CJP workers and Sanjay then attacked Swatantra, knocked him to the ground and beat him. During the scuffle, Swatantra raised his hand, and the Kada he was wearing struck Sanjay on the head. This can be seen at the 12-second mark in the second video.

Harassing security personnel during protests for no apparent reason is increasingly being portrayed as revolutionary journalism. And those engaging in it are being celebrated as fearless, independent voices. Meet Prisha Yadav, another journalist who has been actively covering the protests. When approached with a proposal to create Instagram content for the SP, she was also willing to work with the party. Her quoted rates ranged from ₹13,000 to ₹85,000, depending on the content package. 5/

Meet Govind Gurjar, who is covering the Delhi protests, branding other journalists as “Godi Media” and presenting himself as part of the independent media. I emailed him twice with a proposal to create Instagram videos for the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2027 UP elections. He did not reject the proposal on journalistic grounds. Instead, he said he was busy covering the protests and shared his mobile number along with samples of his work. What moral authority do these people have to call others 'Godi Media' while entertaining offers to create political content for a party? 7/

Now you’ve formed a new political party, why are your tactics still the same as the old one? Try something new. It is because of this kind of politics that your leader, Arvind Kejriwal, has already lost. By the way, Arpit’s father, Vikash Sharma had contested the 2022 UP Assembly elections from the Bulandshahr seat as an AAP candidate. Arpit had also campaigned actively for his father, but he ended up losing his security deposit in the election.
