Idyllic Countryside | Breathtaking Coastline | Historical Cities | Yorkshire Puddings | North Yorkshire has it all

Robin Hood's Bay wasn't built for tourists. It was built to hide things. Smugglers ruled this coastline for centuries, moving tea, rum, silk and brandy through a maze of narrow lanes and hidden passageways, right under the noses of the excise men. Cottages were packed so tightly together that a single house could offer a dozen ways to disappear. Walk those same lanes today, and you're walking straight through that secret history 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

For centuries, the sound of bells ringing out across Yorkshire villages marked more than just Sunday service. It was the sound of community, calling people together. In so many villages, that sound has gone quiet. Bellringers are getting older, and fewer people are stepping up to learn. It's a skill, a tradition and a sound worth keeping alive.

Lunch at the Tan Hill Inn 😋 Britain's highest pub, sitting at 1,732 feet above sea level. The nearest neighbour is 11 miles away. The building itself dates back to the 17th century, originally serving coal miners and drovers crossing the moors, with thick stone walls and roaring log fires that burn even in summer. It's been snowed in more times than anyone can count, hosted Pennine Way walkers for decades and even made history as the first pub in the UK licensed for weddings outside a church. Remote, historic and always worth the journey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

In the 1700s Robin Hood's Bay was famous for smuggling. Tea, gin, tobacco, and brandy were secretly brought in from France and Holland to avoid taxes. Many cottages were secretly linked by tunnels and passageways so smugglers could move contraband without being seen by customs officers.

Make the most of these summer evenings because soon enough, they'll be gone. Long light, warm air, that golden hour that seems to stretch on forever. Get outside while you still can. Autumn is coming 🍁
