Today, the ABC team was honoured to stand alongside residents, businesses, and police representatives to oppose the overdose prevention site at 900 Helmcken without proper consultation. It was inspiring to see so many community members stand together for the good of the neighbourhood and for better outcomes for the most vulnerable residents of our city. Thanks to all of the community members who have made their voices hear, the opening of the 900 Helmcken OPS has now been delayed. This victory belongs to all of you. We know that this is just the beginning and we will stand with you through every step of this process. ABC remains committed to ensuring that this OPS will not open at 900 Helmcken or any similar location. #abcvancouver #publicsafety #affordablitily Peter Meiszner Mike Klassen 麥嘉信 🇨🇦 Sarah Kirby-Yung 楊瑞蘭 Lenny Zhou 🇨🇦🇺🇦 Lisa Dominato, City Councillor

Building a house just across the street in Burnaby can cost roughly 25% less than building the same home in Vancouver. At a time when affordability is already crushing families, City Hall shouldn’t be adding more costs and delays. Today, we’re taking action to modernize Vancouver’s building rules and bring them more in line with the Province of BC. • Less red tape • Faster approvals • Lower building costs • More affordable housing Vancouver is the only city in BC with its own standalone building code — creating extra costs, delays, and complexity that ultimately get passed on to you. Our promise is simple: every decision we make should help make life more affordable for Vancouverites. Mike Klassen 麥嘉信 🇨🇦 #affordability #abcvancouver #vancouver #respectingyourtaxdollars

Mayor Ken Sim and ABC took office with a clear mandate: restore safety in the DTES. We decamped East Hastings, invested in frontline public safety and mental health services, and revitalized Chinatown and Gastown. Today, shoppers are back, streets and public spaces are safer, and violent crime is at its lowest in 23 years. We’ve made real progress — but we can’t go backwards. Public safety is the foundation of a city that works. #vanpoli

At this week's Budget 2026 Council meeting, Mayor Ken Sim asked: “Families across Vancouver are really feeling the pinch of rising costs… what does a 0% property tax increase mean in the context of providing meaningful relief?” Staff confirm it means real relief. By bringing down property taxes from the projected 6–7% to 0%, residents and businesses will see tangible, reduced costs. ABC has a plan to make Vancouver more affordable. To learn more:

The Luugat, located in the former Howard Johnson Hotel and currently used for supportive housing, will close by June 2026. The site has faced ongoing complaints from neighbouring businesses, including fires, violence, break-ins, open drug use, and street disorder. 💡“We are working to rebuild this important and historic part of our province’s entertainment, music, arts, and culture scene — a vital economic driver for our city. Our goal is to restore jobs and create a space where locals and visitors alike can feel safe and enjoy an outstanding experience,” said Laura Ballance, spokesperson for the Vancouver Hospitality Association. Mayor Ken Sim said supportive housing does not belong in the Granville Entertainment District, calling the closure a step forward. “The Province has informed us that these facilities will be closed and that residents will not be relocated elsewhere in the GED. We will continue to hold them to their word.” ✅Businesses along the Granville Strip say they are hopeful this change will help revitalize the area and strengthen the hospitality sector. ➡️ABC Vancouver remains committed to revitalizing the Granville Entertainment District. On the CBCEarlyEdition, Mayor Ken Sim said: “Stephen, let me ask you a different question. Can you name a government anywhere that is so efficient it cannot find a couple of percent in savings?” Because in Vancouver, Mayor Ken Sim and the ABC Majority are doing exactly what residents elected us to do: protect frontline services including libraries, community centres, grants, parks, and public safety, and look inside a $2.4 billion organization to identify duplication, outdated contracts, and real efficiencies. Mayor Ken Sim and the ABC Majority are maintaining what matters and refusing to default to another property tax increase. That is the responsible way to run a city. Learn more and get involved at:
