Abdoela Berhan, a 35-year-old Eritrean failed asylum seeker, living in a taxpayer-funded hotel, approached Cleo Lake and her friends. She told him to get lost and pushed him away. His response? A full-force punch to the face that left her bleeding and unconscious on the ground with a broken nose. He then ran off. CCTV caught the whole thing, but he still claimed self-defence. This wasn’t his first offence either. Just one week earlier he had been convicted of attacking a Subway worker. He also had a previous conviction for damaging a police cell. Last month a magistrate gave him the maximum available in that court: SIX months. A mere six months for knocking a young woman out cold because she rejected him.
