The 101st Airborne “Red Currahee” in Afghanistan: Securing the high ground in rugged mountain terrain. In May 2011, soldiers from Company D, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, conducted Operation Oqab Behar VI in Paktika Province, eastern Afghanistan. Operating in steep mountainous terrain near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, the soldiers sought to control elevated positions to observe the surrounding area and monitor enemy movements. This footage highlights the challenges of dismounted infantry operations, where difficult terrain, coordination, and small-unit leadership were essential. Original footage filmed by Spc.
