I don’t think Jamaicans realize how lucky we were that Melissa was tracking so far south of us while moving east to west. By the time she turned & passed north, she had weakened to a Category 4, but her southern side hit southeast Jamaica, which is why Tuesday night was so rough.

Heavy flooding hit parts of Kingston yesterday, with buses and vehicles swamped. If you’re ever in this situation, stay calm, keep belongings up, move to higher seats if you can, and wait for rescue or safe exit, never step into fast-moving or contaminated water.

If you're enjoying yourself by the river and it starts to rain, leave immediately. The rain could be heavier upstream and cause the river to rise suddenly and violently. Don't let a river party turn into tragedy. Stay vigilant, especially in the rainy season (May/June & September/October). Apologies for the expletives in the video.
