No one will convince me this entire sequence wasn’t a great bit of slapstick/visual comedy. Whoever storyboarded this did fantastic work with playing with the setting and the facial expressions of Francis. This was different from the brand of slapstick you see the Minions do.

No joke, Lamput is genuinely one of the best slapstick cartoons of the 2010’s. I’ve said this before, but I don’t think there was a cartoon that I personally felt could was a true spiritual successor to Tom and Jerry until this. THIS is masterful, aspiring visual comedy.

The train chase in Minions and Monsters is easily one of the best action set pieces Illumination has done in a non Mario movie. It’s chaotic, has great references to silent comedy legends, cool shots and is topped with John Powell’s frenetic score. Just PHENOMENALLY executed.
