The women of California stand in solidarity with the women of Scotland. To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power, b/c there is no basis upon which to do so. We’ve been reported to the police for a hate crime b/c we held a “protect female sports” banner. So far the 1st amendment still applies, but it feels tenuous.

According to the DA, the prison has failed to transport Carroll to court FIVE times. The trial delayed again & again. On March 6 the warden has been ordered to appear in court to explain why. We need the press to cover this. Last week, in a desperate attempt to force attention on what’s happening, we sent billboard trucks across California: LA, SF, Sac, Fresno. We had teams hundreds of miles apart taking photos & raising bloody hell. We got coverage from California Post Daniel Monaghan The Post Millennial 🙏 🙏 🙏 The women inside the prison told us the press coverage & trucks gave them hope. So we used the last of our budget to send a truck to the prison itself. Two formerly incarcerated women followed it, laying on the horn until their car broke down. This is where women are at here in the beautiful state of California. Women beeping our horns, running our cars into the ground, screaming for these rapes to stop. People will not become less antisemitic because the government forces their mouths closed. We have data that tells us this. In fact, it can radicalize people more. In 1977, neo-Nazis announced they would march through Skokie, Illinois, a town home to thousands of Holocaust survivors. The town tried to stop them. The ACLU took the Nazis’ case. The lawyer who argued it was a Jewish man named David Goldberger. That is the America I believe in. The America that allows even the worst ideas to be spoken aloud, because the answer to bad speech is more speech, never less. The America that understands the difference between liberty and state control. The America that refuses to hand government the power to decide which views may be spoken and which must be punished. Both my grandfathers crossed an ocean to fight fascism. They came home to a country deeply imperfect, but committed at its core to freedom. They did not storm beaches and bleed in foreign fields so that, three generations later, their grandchildren would sit silent while the state chipped away at our rights. AB 1803 now heads to the CA Senate Judiciary Committee, and Women Are Real will be there to fight it every step of the way. The First Amendment does not defend itself. It survives only because, in every generation, people refuse to nod along.

California women are being trained to be quiet. Yesterday, Kara Dansky testified against AB 1803, a bill that would mandate so-called “anti-hate speech” training in California workplaces. And sitting on the committee was Senator John Laird, the man who authored the 2005 bill that stripped California women of female-only public bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms. When women object to these trainings, we are not talking about “sexual transmission,” as Laird bizarrely suggested. (And we all know anyone making a Nazi salute will not swayed by an HR training.) We are talking about women being scared out of reporting a man in the bathroom, locker room, or changing room at work. California’s sexual harassment trainings already push this message. (see evidence in thread). AB 1803 will only make it worse.

Ezra Klein calls the belief that women have a right to single-sex sports & spaces “fundamentally and morally wrong.” He admits most Americans disagree, yet lacks the theory of mind to imagine that millions might support single-sex spaces for reasons other than hatred or ignorance. He asks Ta-Nehisi Coates if he should try and win us over or compromise with us. This is the wrong question Ezra Klein. You need to first talk directly to us and try to understand our position. If Klein really wants to lead Democrats out of the wilderness, he needs to find the courage to invite women in the Democratic Party who disagree with him onto his podcast and actually hear our side. Kara Dansky is an obvious choice and would be a stellar guest. On a side note: Coates’s answer to all this is to talk about the Reconstruction?!?

Cathleen Quinn is a political prisoner held by the state of CA for daring to say she didn’t feel safe being housed with intact men. She was 3 weeks away from her release. And the state revoked her parole. It’s important that folks understand Cathleen was punished so harshly because she and Tomiekia Johnson were the first incarcerated women to speak against SB 132. The state needed to make an example of these two women. They needed to show ALL the other women housed in prison that they better shut up or they too would lose their job, their honor dorm housing, their parole, their everything. This tactic has been highly effective. But it is crumbling. Oh look, another Democrat comparing chemical castration drugs for kids & mastectomies for teenage girls to “back surgery” gone wrong. The point of removing a girls’ breasts is to alter her body to appear more masculine. The point of blocking puberty is to stop sexual maturity. Nothing has gone wrong. The goal has been achieved.
