If I remember correctly, successfully completing this single take stunt sequence of running, leaping a fence, and jumping into a moving car is what got Bobby Samuels into the Hong Kong Stuntmen’s Association. He’s the only African American to ever be a member.

I scrolled upon a debate about greatest action &amp; martial arts performers. Not a single reply or repost mentioned Tony Jaa, who I consider to be hands down the best post-HK golden era screen martial artist. So here's a quick edit I just did of a chase sequence from Ong Bak.

The scale of Duck You Sucker (1971) is astonishing. Truly epic filmmaking of the nearly extinct variety. The best parts of this movie are as good as anything Leone ever did. As good as cinema gets.

Chow Yun-fat's range in this clip, from stoic cool -guy-in-a-suit double fisting pistols to anxious tension and finally emotional devastation is supreme. Easily the best actor-turned-action-star of all time.

It's happened again. I've fallen in love with another strange, beautiful, poetic Taiwanese film.

One of the things I love so much about vintage John Woo is how nimble his mind was, taking influence from every thing he could find. The A Better Tomorrow films have clear influence from French and American crime films, Hong Kong martial arts cinema, and classic Japanese films.

Feels like a Tsai Ming-liang kind of day. Might go for a quietly devastating walk.
