📝 Uma nota para os meus seguidores portugueses: Penso todos os dias no fenômeno El Niño, que está se intensificando, e no que isso significará para nós em Portugal e no restante da Europa neste próximo outono e inverno. Para ser sincero, o inverno passado foi incrivelmente chuvoso, marcado por tempestades e até destrutivo para Portugal e Espanha; isso me faz imaginar qual efeito um dos fenômenos El Niño mais fortes já registrados poderia ter no próximo inverno. Não estou dizendo que devemos esperar condições meteorológicas ainda piores, pois o clima é muito mais complexo do que simplesmente presumir que um único fator leve sempre ao mesmo resultado. No entanto, o El Niño terá, sem dúvida, um efeito global, e o impacto indireto na Europa (incluindo Portugal) poderá ser significativo. Os modelos climáticos preveem que o inverno será excepcionalmente chuvoso no sul e no oeste da Europa, indicando uma trajetória de tempestades no Atlântico bastante ativa. English: I think about the growing El Niño every day and what it will mean for us in Portugal and the rest of Europe in this upcoming autumn and winter. Quite honestly last winter was unbelievably wet, stormy, and even destructive for Portugal and Spain and it makes me wonder what effect one of the strongest El Niños in recorded history could have on this upcoming winter. I’m not saying to expect even worse weather, because weather is much more complex than just assuming one single factor leads to the same outcome. Yet El Niño will undoubtedly have an effect globally, and the indirect impact on Europe (including Portugal) could be significant. Climate models predict that the winter season will be unusually wet in southern and Western Europe indicating a very active Atlantic storm track. Obviously these models are predicting large time periods far in advance, so that doesn’t mean the entire winter will be endless rain, but it’s a strong indication of a persistent pattern.
