This is the first time I've heard this... MLB umpires have 2 way microphones and are in contact with the ABS operator during the game getting feedback on their strike zone. Personally, I think that's a tremendous use of the technology to help get more calls right.

Giants fans’ loss is Guardians fans’ gain. Patrick Bailey gets his first caught stealing in Cleveland.

Interesting ABS situation here. 3-2, runner goes, ball 4 is called and he pulls up into 2B. Catcher challenges… and now you start to wonder what would happen if it’s overturned. Are the announcers right, would this become a double play? Or would the umpires send the runner back to first since the original call influenced the play?

Just Patrick Bailey things. There's no one quite like him back there.

Umpiring is hard, but sometimes you see a call that makes you scratch your head.

Some people may call me a boomer for this, but... Preventing Delayed Steals is easy. When a runner is on base STAND UP to throw the ball back to the pitcher. Throwing the ball back to the P from your knees with a runner on base is an open invitation for a Delayed Steal. If you're too tired to stand up to throw the ball back just tell the coach and I'm sure he'll find a comfortable spot for you on the bench! #EndRant

This is EXACTLY what I was referring to in my tweet yesterday about players knowing how to play the game. Today's athletes are: • Bigger • Faster • Stronger • More Talented But, they (generally) don't have the Baseball IQ needed. Our job as coaches is to TEACH them!

It doesn't always have to be a head nod, but this is a great example of nonverbal communication.

We've been seeing more intentional bounces on throw downs lately. Why do you think this is becoming more popular?

I absolutely LOVE seeing this! Two 1st and 3rd situations last night that catchers handled perfectly! 1. Tyler Stephenson with an arm fake to 2B and then catches the R3 in 'no man's land' for an easy out. 2. Henry Davis fires a bullet to 2B and then catches the return throw and applies the tag. This is being PREPARED for the situation and remaining CALM so the game doesn't speed up on you.

Gabriel Moreno cuts down Dylan Crews with an absolute hose. 1.79 for his first CS of the season.

My new GoPro setup is a huge success...I'm calling it the "Baby Edgertronic" because it's WAY more functional and affordable This is video footage from the SEC Tournament of UT's catcher Cal Stark. The video is shot in 1080p at 240fps (10x slow motion). There are, IMO, a lot of benefits of using a setup like this instead of an Edgertronic, but watch the video for yourself and you be the judge!

11 stolen strikes from the first game of the 2026 season. Receiving still shows up — even with ABS.

Looks like Danny Jansen is enjoying his transition to a knee down system. 👀
