in another interview, Tsai Chiayin also revealed that #SunQian herself said she didn’t want there to be any male gaze in #TheEarlySpring (t/n: male gaze refers to portraying women from a male perspective, often framing them as objects of sxual attraction) Sunqian said: “I don’t want there to be any male gaze in our drama.” There was one particular scene where they were filming, and Qian noticed something and said, “Isn’t this maybe a little… 👀?” So they immediately sat down with Qian, the cinematographer, and the director and discussed it together. Some dramas focus the camera on an actress’s chest, thighs, or other body parts for an unnecessarily long time, turning her body into something for the audience to look at rather than part of the character or story. And I really appreciate that they actually listened to her concern and discussed it together instead of simply saying, that’s just how the scene is shot. the fact that the actor can also act as a check on the camera and the way a scene is presented feels really important.

I know that #ZhouKeyu has been portrayed as having a tragic life, but not this tragic. who put onions here? 😭 His childhood experience really sounds so rough. Zhou Keyu was born in the US at a time when his parents were going through a divorce. His father reportedly didn’t even want him. He was put in an incubator right after birth and even his name wasn’t given by his parents. It was a pastor who gave him the english name Daniel. His parents don’t care about him when he got lost at 4 yo. He was burned by fire at the age of 7, caused semi-permanent damage in scalp. His childhood was basically spent in neglect. He only saw his mother 3 times a year. No one really took care of him. Not until his older brother started working and brought him to Beijing to live, giving him a more normal environment to grow up in. At 16, he signed to the entertainment industry and started from scratch. At 17, he had serious illness. When he turned 18, he voluntarily gave up his US citizenship and obtained a Chinese ID, which is something many celebrities don’t do

#SunQian said that Shang Zhitao is basically her being written into the script, also revealed why she couldnt stop crying during proposal scene in #TheEarlySpring BTS and shared a beautiful message for girls who feel insecure in a relationship: “Fall madly in love with yourself.” 🥹 🥹 “When I was reading the script, I found out that she was a girl from Harbin and then there was also the fact that she was a beipiao (t/n: people who leave their hometowns to live and work in Beijing). I honestly felt like… this was basically me being written into the script. I could barely tell the difference between the character and myself because there were so many similarities between us. Sometimes, the only differences were that I came to Beijing a little earlier, started dancing and doing things like that, and started going out on my own in the city earlier” “For the proposal scene, I told Jing-ge, I’ve never been to a wedding before. I’m really not into this kind of thing. I don’t think it’s that interesting. And Jing-ge was like, Really? Actually, if you attended a wedding, you’d probably cry the whole time. I said, No way. That would be way too performative and sentimental. And putting these huge photos of the two people up everywhere? How awkward would that be? Then we started filming Jing-ge’s shots. He said, Shang Zhitao, welcome to the museum of time. And I was just crying uncontrollably. There were photos of her friends, her dog, and then he took out the ring. And the ring was actually our producer’s own ring! after finishing that scene that day, I just felt… it was so beautiful. I thought, I really have to find someone I absolutely love and marry them. “What I want to tell girls is that you need to have a really strong sense of self-worth. You have to truly believe in yourself and think. If every girl could really internalize that and carry it in her heart, she would be able to have a better relationship with herself, find a better kind of love and a better partner. Fall madly in love with yourself. Believe that you’re amazing. Then, when you look at other people, you won’t have to look away. When you talk to someone, you won’t be worrying about whether you look pretty today or thinking. Only when you have enough confidence can you fully bring out your own charm. your presence becomes stronger and reaches further. In a relationship, you won’t constantly be anxious and insecure about whether you’re going to lose the other person.”

#sunqian #jingboran agreed that #TheEarlySpring has the most kissing scenes they’ve ever had in a drama. "before, we're filming scenes. now, we’re filming kissing scenes" 😭 when they're filming intimate scene, they're saying their lines and gradually getting closer and closer. even not intimate scene, the moment they started talking, their faces would already close and even closer. that on bts, they're so close and afraid of having cross-eyed from looking at each other lol 😭😭

spoiler alert‼️ but much more like the original novel and Sun Qian had already spoiled Yuanzhu’s fate before in their offline promo, so… we kinda knew this was coming when Shang Zhitao read Sun Yuanzhu's letter, she completely broke down and cried. before his death, Sun Yuanzhu’s depression had been getting worse and worse. he left a suicide note for Shang Zhitao, explaining that the combined pressure he had been under for so long, along with his mother’s death and everything else happening at once, had become too much for him to handle and led to his depression. He also confessed that he had secretly been in love with Shang Zhitao for many years. So, it turns out that in the scene where Sun Yuanzhu goes to see Shang Zhitao, it was because his mother had passed away. He was having a depressive episode and went to Shang Zhitao for comfort. Luan Nian happened to see them hugging and got jealous. Later, Shang Zhitao suggested making their relationship public. She no longer wanted to continue this secret relationship with Luan Nian without any official status. She thought he would agree, but unexpectedly, Luan Nian didn’t want to go public. On top of that, he was often seen spending time with Zang Yao. Luan Nian’s first trip was even with Zang Yao. Shang Zhitao later discovered a photo of Luan Nian and Zang Yao traveling together and realized that she wasn’t the first person Luan Nian had traveled with. When she looked at her own travel photos with Luan Nian, she found the whole thing painfully ironic. Disappointed, Shang Zhitao decided to end the relationship. She broke up with Luan Nian and left with Luke. When Luan Nian called her afterward, he found that her number was no longer in service. It was only then that he realized he had fallen in love with Shang Zhitao. During the 3 years they were apart, Shang Zhitao kept improving herself and became more and more successful. Meanwhile, Luan Nian still loved her. He even went to the city where she worked to look for her, but they never crossed paths. When they finally met again, Shang Zhitao had become a strong, successful woman and wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. Luan Nian then began his shameless journey of trying to win his wife back. He even wanted to move into Shang Zhitao’s home, only to be kicked out by her. Later, he waited downstairs drinking and Shang Zhitao eventually felt sorry for him and finally forgave him. They also got back together physically.

#TheEarlySpring director Jiang Jizheng talked about his approach to the drama’s female target audience and why #JingBoran and #SunQian fit Luan Nian & Shang Zhitao naturally Since the majority of the audience is women, he said they deliberately approached the characters from a female perspective. For intimate scenes, he would ask the women on set, including Sun Qian, whether certain touches, movements or kisses felt natural or too greasy, because men and women can perceive physical intimacy very differently. For him, intimacy isn’t about simply adding kisses. “If you deliberately kiss just for the sake of having a kiss, the characters’ emotional state can get lost.” “When a man and a woman look into each other’s eyes, I think what the audience really wants to see is the emotional push and pull happening inside them before that moment, before they actually take that step.” He believes the audience wants to feel the emotional push and pull before the kiss, the hesitation, distance, tension and anticipation. So he first establishes their physical distance: sometimes they move closer, sometimes one steps back while the other moves closer, then he adds their eye contact and reactions. Lighting, atmosphere, editing and even moments of silence help deepen what the characters are feeling without spelling everything out. If handled poorly, intimacy can easily feel “greasy” and uncomfortable to watch, particularly to female viewers. His goal is to let the audience feel what’s happening between them rather than simply watch them kiss. The first time he met Jing Boran bcs it's their first collaboration. From the way Jing spoke to him and the way Jing looked at him, he could really feel that Jingbao was a mature person and also had what our Luan Nian character has inside him. He’d describe it as restraint and has this kind of mature man charm. As for Sun Qian, actually, she is from Harbin, so naturally have a certain vitality. And this vitality is very important to the character Shang Zhitao, and it’s also a very fitting and key quality. And she can also be very cutesy, but at the same time and has a lot of ideals. So, after Jiang saw the two of them, he actually didn’t need to deliberately impose strict requirements on how they should be. The things they naturally give off, or even the feeling that comes through when you put them in front of the camera, are actually very, very fitting for these two characters. His job was simply to use atmosphere, distance and dramatic tension to bring it out. And apparently Sun Qian is also the one keeping the set alive. She didn’t just tease Jing Boran, she teased the director too, and always caught him off guard.

#LiuXueyi full interview is here! he shared about Lin Jinqi, why he chose to take on #AgainstTheCurrent, why he doesnt chase popularity, why he prefers to live in the present and what kind of person he likes hehehe😆 What kind of person do you like? him: at our age, it's already pretty good if someone chooses you 😌 when confronted with some of the criticisms directed at Jinqi, including breaking off his engagement at the beginning of the story and being accused of being a “scumbag”, he firmly refuses to accept the label. he explains that young Jinqi had many moments when he was forced to say things that did not reflect what he truly felt. Much of his behavior was dictated by the circumstances surrounding the Lin family, leaving him with little room to make his own choices. At that point, simply protecting himself was already difficult enough, so he did not have the luxury of worrying about the survival of another family. He also rejects the suggestion that Jinqi had already been married before Lanxiang and therefore had somehow failed to “keep himself clean.” He calls that accusation unfair and jokes that the audience needs to go back to the script to understand what actually happened. When asked whether Jinqi’s eventual “chasing his wife after messing everything up” was something he brought upon himself, he gives a characteristically straightforward answer: whatever happened along the way, as long as the ending is good, that is what matters. Although Lin Jinqi has plenty of qualities that viewers might describe as “red flags,” Liu Xueyi says that imperfection was precisely what attracted him to the character. “None of us are perfect,” he explains. In his view, it is those imperfections that make a character feel real and allow audiences to identify with him. Rather than portraying someone who already understands everything about relationships and love, Jinqi is someone who has to learn. His journey is therefore not simply about becoming a better person in a conventional sense. It is about learning how to communicate, respect another person's choices, and understand love beyond his own way of thinking. watching Jinqi gradually make that transition and seeing his relationship with Lanxiang change from misunderstanding to comradeship, friendship, and eventually a deeper emotional connection is what makes the role particularly interesting. He also speaks openly about his attitude toward his acting career. He recalls previously saying, “As long as I have work, I’m content. Whether I become popular or not is up to fate.” His attitude has not changed significantly. Rather than worrying about what happened before or what might happen later, he prefers to focus on the present. His priority is to serve the role, complete what the script asks of him, and make sure that at the end of each working day, he has no regrets about the work he has done. He also says that he does not like setting huge goals for himself. Instead of constantly thinking about where he should be in the industry or whether a drama will become a hit, he focuses on doing today's work well. He describes himself as someone who lives very much in the present. “Plans can't keep up with changes,” he says, so he sees little point in overthinking what might happen several days in advance. He jokes that even his plans for that evening had only been decided ten minutes earlier. If something can change that quickly, there is little point in deciding two days beforehand what he will be doing. He says his decision to take Against the Current did not take particularly long, only a few days. But he did take the time to finish reading the script, study the character, and meet with the creative team before making his decision. When the interviewer suggests that he is actually very suitable for variety shows, he immediately jokes, “When did I ever say that?” He explains that because of his personality, he might actually be quite easy for audiences to remember if he appears frequently on variety programs. This is one reason he prefers to maintain a certain degree of distance. However, he clarifies that this does not mean he refuses variety shows or promotional activities altogether. He simply wants to maintain a boundary that feels comfortable to him. His main concern is still his identity as an actor. He wonders whether becoming too recognizable for his personality outside of dramas might eventually affect the way audiences perceive his future characters. For him, everything ultimately has to come back to the role. “My identity as an actor comes first.” He admits that he has improved compared with the past when it comes to publicity and promotional activities, although he still does not consider himself particularly good at them. He sees this as something he is gradually learning. Rather than suddenly forcing himself to become highly active, he is slowly becoming more comfortable with it and believes there is still room for improvement. His Arctic vlog is one example. the trip was not simply a KPI assigned by his team. He actually took the initiative to make the vlog himself. During the trip, while sailing through Arctic waters, he was able to experience what those descriptions actually meant in reality. He also found the polar day fascinating: at one in the morning, when he could not sleep, he could still go outside and enjoy the sunlight. For him, the trip reflects a broader philosophy about life. He says there are many places he wants to visit, but people often keep telling themselves, “Maybe next time,” whenever something gets in the way. If you keep postponing everything, eventually you may end up going nowhere.
