The documents provided to TSN tell the real story: * The Hungarian Note: Hungary sent a request for a visit on specific dates. * The Ukrainian Response: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine explicitly stated those dates were unacceptable and asked to negotiate new ones. In the world of adult diplomacy, when a country says "the dates don't work," you don't just show up anyway and then act shocked when the President of the host nation says he didn't invite you. Showing up when the door is explicitly closed isn't a "state visit". It’s a private trip with delusions of grandeur. Zelenskyy’s dismissive tone isn't "lying”. It’s a reflection of the fact that Ukraine is fighting a war and doesn't have time for uncoordinated drop-ins from a neighbour that spent the last years blocking aid. Sending a Deputy to meet a Prime Minister is a breach of protocol seen as a deliberate sign of disrespect. Poland won't applaud Trump’s vanity project, the Nobel Peace Prize. Today a major diplomatic row broke out between the U.S. and Poland because Włodzimierz Czarzasty (the Speaker of the Sejm) took a very public stand against Donald Trump. The catalyst was a formal request from U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, asking international leaders to co-sign a nomination for Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Czarzasty flatly refused. U.S. Ambassador Tom Rose responded by blacklisting Czarzasty, declaring that the U.S. Embassy would have "no further dealings, contacts, or communications" with him effective immediately. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk joined the fray, telling the U.S. Ambassador that "allies should respect, not lecture, each other. Roman Giertych then wrote a letter (see in the comments), escalating the rhetoric by comparing the demand for the Nobel Prize to the vanity of the Emperor Nero. Brilliant! “Trump, the peacemaker.” - Jonathan Pie “Back to you, Sophie. Thank you. It's interesting, isn't it, that Trump signed this deal in Versailles, you know, the location of another famous humiliating, total capitulation. But you know, of course, Trump will spin this as a massive success because he's got form in declaring he's won when clearly he hasn't. But this war was a success in the same way that paying $14 million to have large chunks of blue paint floating in an algae-infested reflecting pool was money well spent. The truth is, the United States has rarely looked weaker, and Iran has rarely looked stronger, having now worked out that if anyone doesn't do exactly what they want them to, they'll just close the Strait of Hormuz, and they've got the whole world by the bullbags. We went from week one: "I will win. Victory will be easier than that time I kidnapped the president of Venezuela." To week two: "I won." To week three: "Why aren't you helping me win?" To week four: "I don't need your help to win, but if you don't help me win, I'm going to destroy NATO." Week five: "If you don't let me win, I'll annihilate an entire civilization." It's quite a feat to give the Iranian regime the moral high ground, but luckily, Donald Trump shattered the illusion of American morality a long time ago. Week six: "We're winning, and to prove it, here's an AI picture of me dressed as Jesus.” Week seven: "The Pope is a soy-filled, woke, Guardian reader." Week eight: "I'm getting bored now." Weeks nine through to 14: "Really bored now, and I've got ballrooms to build and cage fights on the White House lawn to organise." And four months later, victory! Thank you very much, where's my peace prize? And if the rest of the G7 can just clear up the mess and pay the bill, that would be great. The outcome was always inevitable, but you know, it's been fun to watch. Most of Trump's posts on Truth Social around the conflict have sounded less like the leader of the free world and more like a 14-year-old boy who's the only one left in the class not to have fingered anyone. One particular highlight being on Easter Sunday, when Trump went on to Truth Social to write, "Open the fucking strait, you crazy bastards." Which are the words of a true diplomat with supreme control of the situation. He then spent some time at the White House Easter Egg Roll, where he gave a speech to a bunch of bemused primary school children about how he's thinking of starting World War III in Iran and Joe Biden's auto-pen. But this conflict hasn't all been plain sailing. Trump got really angry with the UK, and Spain, and Canada, Australia, Italy—in fact, anyone who raised any objections to this gross example of imperial overreach was branded a coward. It was as if he felt like we should all be grateful that his latest piece of American expansionism didn't involve making Canada the 51st state or carpet bombing the sleepy village of Greenland. Perhaps if you want your allies to be good allies, then maybe start treating us like allies. Don't bully your allies, or slam illegal tariffs on your allies, or interfere with their elections by overtly promoting far-right parties across Europe whilst hurling insults at our leaders and threatening to invade Allied sovereign territory, and then demand we come to your aid just because you started a war because one, Benjamin Netanyahu told you to, and two, to distract from the fact that you appear in the Epstein files more times than Jesus is mentioned in the Bible. But at least someone did all right out of this whole thing. Well, for me, the highlight of the whole shit show was the $2.1 billion in bets placed minutes before presidential announcements about the war in Iran. 1/2

Leonid Ivashov, a heavy-hitting retired Russian Colonel General, recently went rogue and started saying out loud what most people in the Kremlin only dare to whisper. He didn't hold back, basically calling things out for being a mess. The Big Picture: "We're in Trouble" Ivashov starts by basically saying Russia is a mess right now. He’s not sugarcoating it: we’re lonely on the world stage (only a handful of countries even talk to us at the UN), and we’ve lost our influence over our neighbors. He even compares putin’s era to the start of the Soviet collapse under Gorbachev—lots of talk, but everything is breaking. 1. The "Broken Stuff" List He goes through a laundry list of things that aren't working: * Planes: We can't build our own passenger jets. We’re basically cannibalising old Boeings for parts. * Space: He tells a wild story about how the last working manned launchpad at Baikonur was accidentally torched because of poor maintenance. Now, Russia effectively can't send people to space. * Food: He warns that the food in the shops is becoming toxic garbage filled with palm oil because the economy is so squeezed. * Corruption: He mentions that 11 trillion rubles were allegedly stolen by the Ministry of Defense. He points out that almost every big corrupt official is a member of the ruling party. 2. The "Spectacle" (The Press Conference) He calls putin’s annual "Direct Line" a brilliant theatrical performance. The Setup: Everything was staged—the suit, the tie, even the camera angles to hide putin’s nervous leg twitching. The Script: He says the questions were totally rehearsed. putin knew what was coming. The few "real" questions from foreign journalists were just dodged with "whataboutism" or jokes. The "Reality Gap": While putin was smiling and talking about how great the economy is, the "ticker tape" on the screen was showing real people from the regions begging for water, roads, and enough money to buy medicine. 3. The War (Tactics vs. Strategy) Ivashov is really unimpressed with the military leadership. * Small Thinking: He says putin is stuck at a "tactical" level—bragging about taking one tiny village or a single house. The NATO Gap: He admits that Ukraine, backed by NATO tech and satellite intel, is hitting Russia where it hurts (oil refineries and airfields), while Russia is just throwing shells at the problem. 4.
