Marc put a question to the group: Whitney, Mariah, Mary or Janet, one of these superstars has to go, with their whole catalog . Ice and Joe said Mariah could go, but Marc picked Whitney. Then when asked which songs they couldn't live without, Ice and Joe doubled down on keeping Whitney. She has so many songs they need in their lives. Joe said he'd be fine never hearing another Mariah song, but Whitney has songs he has to hear. That changed Emanny's mind, and he sided with Ice and Joe. Marc said it's the opposite for him. There are plenty of Mariah songs he can't live without, including the Christmas one. Then Marc asked who has the biggest gap between her talent and her catalog. His answer was Whitney. Her talent is bigger than what her catalog shows. Marc also admitted he listened to "Breakdown" by Mariah with Bone Thugs a lot. Joe played it, and the whole cast ended up clowning Marc for it.

Ice broke down Cardi B's new record "Don't Chart" from GTA. He likes the song and the bounce of it, and you can tell how much money GTA is spending. According to Joe, it sounds like GTA called Cardi, and she went into her old music vault, touched a record up and handed it over. When Mona asked if that's a bad thing, Joe said no, that's the goal for any artist. That sparked a bigger debate about Megan Thee Stallion's new freestyle. Ice said it sounds like everything he's heard from her before. When Marc asked if it's a production thing, Ice said yes: the bounce and the production are the same on every record. Emanny pushed back and said that if we're going to say Meg sounds the same on every record, we have to apply that to most artists out there. He added that Meg can really rap and doesn't sound like everyone else. Ice disagreed, saying he's never heard a Meg record that made him say "oh shit." Emanny said people say the same thing about Chris Brown, so the criticism should go to all of them. According to Joe the difference between Chris Brown and Meg is that Chris's records work. If Meg's records were working, nobody would care, but her "my man, my man, my man" sound isn't sticking with people. He compared her to Cardi, saying Cardi's music matches who she is and connects with people, and Meg's doesn't. Ice said Meg is a brand, but personally he's not a fan of music that sounds the same. Joe added that she's almost like a feature artist.

Joe Budden asked the cast whether Miguel's hit "How Many Drinks?" would be considered rapey by today's standards. Emanny's answer: Honestly, it was rapey by yesterday's standards too. Joe played the song, and the cast went through it line by line to figure out which ones might be a problem now. A few lines could pass as seeking consent, but the cast agreed the rest doesn't hold up by today's standards. Emanny then asked whether that's what killed R&B: the masculine, aggressive way of pursuing women. Marc disagreed. You can be aggressive, he said, without being rapey. Emanny added that there's been a softening in the messaging of some of R&B's top vocalists.

Joe asked about the Druski skit, and Mona jokingly asked if Druski has been paying them, since they react to every single one of his skits. The whole cast loves him and keeps praising him. Emanny said he'd love to see a full show from Druski, but Ice said the skits work well for today's time, and a full show like Dave Chappell's might be a different story. Mona clearly can't read the room. She keeps steering the conversation elsewhere, and the cast keeps pulling it back to Druski because Joe and the cast want to stay on him. Parks said it was disgusting, and Joe called it extreme filth. Marc admitted he wouldn't have done it if he'd known he'd get caught. He tried to defend himself, but nobody on the cast was buying it, and he eventually agreed it was disgusting.

After Ice announced that Lil Durk was acquitted, most of the cast applauded, except Marc. Flip asked why he wasn't clapping. Marc explained he was glad Durk wasn't found guilty, but applauding him is different, given the rumors surrounding him. "What if this was Assata Shakur?" Flip countered. Marc pushed back, asking if he was seriously comparing the two. Marc clarified he isn't rooting against Durk, but argued we don't need to applaud someone just for beating the feds. Ice chimed in that people are simply happy to see a Black man beat the system, comparing it to how Black people felt when O.J. was acquitted. Marc admitted he applauded O.J. back then too, but insisted Black people need to be honest that figures like O.J. or Durk don't represent the best of us, so we shouldn't glorify them for beating the system. Joe added that he agrees with Marc, especially now that he's older.

Marc asked the cast for their most unpopular music take. Emanny said there was a point in Michael Jackson's career where he started making the same kind of music over and over. He struggled to pin down exactly what he meant, and Marc jumped in to say it sounded like Michael had stopped making good music. Marc's own take: Stevie Wonder should have stopped making music in 1980. He said he could do without everything after Hotter Than July. Some of the cast pushed back, so he challenged them to name five good Stevie songs after 1980. Flip named five, and Marc conceded the point. He backed off the 1980 cutoff and moved it to 1985, saying anything after that he could do without. Mona said her take got her death threats years ago. She refused to say it at first, but Marc had looked it up and brought it up himself: it's about Lauryn Hill. Mona thinks Lauryn Hill sits on an undeserved pedestal and that her live performances are bad. She also prefers Doechii. She said her opinion formed after she watched Lauryn Hill perform at a show where people walked out after about three songs.

The Joe Budden Podcast reacted to the viral clip of Marc Lamont Hill's wife talking about aging after having a child. Marc said that when the clip first went up on Instagram, the reaction was mostly positive. But once I posted it on X, it turned into something he didn't expect. Most women said they completely got what she was saying, while most men were harsh critics. From there, people started pulling clips from the podcast out of context to push narratives. Ice pointed out that you can't blame people for creating narratives online when that's exactly what the pods do themselves. Marc replied that he's fine with narratives, he just wants to shoot down the ones about his wife. When people are committed to misunderstanding you, he said, it snowballs and gets exhausting. Emanny added that people seem not to have expected Marc's wife to be this expressive or this strong, and that most of the critics are men who like to control women, so seeing her bothers them. Marc agreed, saying these critics see relationships as a form of domination. Joe steered it back, saying the real conversation is what you do when your wife feels that way. Marc admitted he wishes he had a great answer. It isn't the first time he's heard her say it, but he never knew what to say. He wanted to affirm her feelings while also being honest that the world doesn't see it the same way. Ice said the issue is that it's expected to hear that from Marc, since he's her husband.

Ice says Gunna's new record is nothing you haven't heard before. He doesn't place the exact song, but says the beat sounds like one of Gunna's older beats. Most of the cast agrees. They think it's solid but familiar, like a rehash of his old sound. Then they play Offset's new record "Every Night" featuring Don Toliver, and Parks and Ice say they don't like it at all. Joe then calls Ice out, saying he can't dislike this if he loves the Quavo album. Ice pushes back: he didn't love it, he liked it. Joe calls him a buster anyway. Joe’s take is that Offset and Quavo are doing the same thing with these new records, but Offset is just doing it better. Emanny says he wishes Offset would stick to rapping, like on the record with JID. That's the bag he wants from him, not this new lane he's trying.

Ish brought another piece of news to the pod. According to him, they're saying there's a big blackout coming and it's gonna last a long time, and people are being told to prepare. He says this information has been everywhere for the last couple months. For those who don't watch : Ish is the one on the show who gets his "news" from Facebook and AI, and gets mad when people ask where he got it from. Marc joked that the story didn't make his news feed, and the whole cast knew exactly what this was, another Ish AI story.

Ish's ego is so huge, he asked Joe for a great restaurant recommendation, Joe texted him the name, and he went with his girl and had a great time. He never bothered thanking Joe. When Joe asked him why, his answer was, 'We are men.' When he got push back to that , He tried to Ish himself out of the situation (a term I made up for him, since he does this so much, meaning he accuses you of the exact thing he's been accused of). The cast pulled out text messages of them thanking Ish all the time. 🤦🏾♂️

Joe says the investigation turned Pablo into “the guy” among his peers. That’s when Ish’s dislike for Pablo came out. During a discussion on Sydney Starr, Marc Lamont Hill said intentionally misgendering a trans person is the same as a white person calling a Black person a n****r.
