Earlier today, dozens of settlers celebrated the holiday of Hanukkah by stealing crops from Palestinian-owned olive trees outside the village of Awarta. After the theft, which was escorted by Israeli soldiers, the settlers proceeded to cut down several trees.

Why aren’t we seeing the army arresting the settlers? Because what is happening in Qusra is a clear expression of the government’s policy - annexing as much land as possible while leaving as few Palestinians as possible. In other words, ethnic cleansing. Watch the interview with Ziv Stahl, Executive Director of Yesh Din, on CNN:

[1] By night, the settlers invade Palestinian villages, & by day, they encroach upon their lands. Yesterday, settlers cut down hundreds of trees – some of them hundreds of years old – on the lands of Far'ata, Immatin, Qusrah, Haris, Qaryut, Turmusaya, Jalud, & Sinjil.

In the West Bank, the forcible transfer has begun. Yesh Din and Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) are publishing a new report today. Over the past two years, our staff and volunteers have visited Palestinian shepherding communities east of the Allon road, northeast of Ramallah, dozens of times. These visits included collecting testimonies, conducting personal interviews, and administering questionnaires. We also held information sessions, rights workshops, and medical training sessions and provided medical services in a mobile clinic. Since January 2023, due to Israeli policies and settler violence, more than 1,000 people have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and approximately 100,000 dunams of land were emptied of the Palestinian residents who had lived there for decades. The key conclusion of our report "Displaced Communities, Forgotten People" is that Israel bears responsibility for committing the war crime of forcible transfer of Palestinians in the West Bank - carried out with its support, by its agents or its citizens. Moreover, the state’s deep involvement, its methods of action, the systematic nature of these acts, and their repetition in different locations lead to the grave conclusion that in certain areas of the West Bank, Israel is implementing practices of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. A settler blocks the entrance to the village of #Yasuf in front of soldiers who stand idly by, enabling him to de facto implement a policy of heavy restrictions on freedom of movement. Thousands of Palestinians use this road, as it is the main route to the city and district of #Salfit, whose routes have been blocked for many months now. This route has been closed and opened intermittently by the military during the morning hours, which already makes it difficult for thousands who depend on it. Since the war began, the military has been enforcing a policy of road closures and blockades throughout the West Bank, disrupting the daily lives of millions of Palestinian residents. This is yet another example of who sets and implements Israeli policy in the West Bank — the settlers lead, the military watches and enables.
