Earlier today, dozens of settlers celebrated the holiday of Hanukkah by stealing crops from Palestinian-owned olive trees outside the village of Awarta. After the theft, which was escorted by Israeli soldiers, the settlers proceeded to cut down several trees.

A new report we are publishing today exposes how Israel is turning the idea of population transfer in the West Bank from a political plan into a reality on the ground. The report "Maximum Land, Minimum Population" shows that outposts, settlements, settler and military violence and movement restrictions are not separate phenomena, but parts of a mechanism that serves Israel’s declared policy: annexing as much of the West Bank as possible while leaving as few of its Palestinian residents as possible. In other words - Ethnic Cleansing. The report was jointly authored by Yesh Din, Bimkom במקום بمكوم & HaMoked. Read the full report >>

Since the early morning hours, four Palestinians from the village of Burin have been arrested for harvesting olives from their own private land. An armed settler in uniform from the nearby settlement of Yitzhar summoned military forces to the area. The soldiers handcuffed and arrested the four farmers. *The accusation: harvesting olives!* After the arrest, the soldiers also removed the olive harvest that had already been collected from the plot.

The olive harvest season in the West Bank will only begin next month, but Israel is already doing everything it can to prevent Palestinians from harvesting their olives. Settlers were documented this morning stealing olives from lands belonging to the villages of Beitillu and Sinjil, while the army completed the job by uprooting hundreds of trees today on land belonging to Deir Nidham. (The videos were provided by the village councils) As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said yesterday: “Violence, displacement, and settlement expansion by Israel in the occupied West Bank are bulldozing the path to peace and raising the specter of ethnic cleansing.”

Today, we are publishing a new report: “The Next Frontier: Violence by Israeli Civilians Against Palestinians in Areas A and B" Over the past two years, settlers have begun establishing outposts in Areas A and B with state support. Our new report shows how the line of outposts also marks the line of violence: In 2026, 63% of the incidents of settler violence against Palestinians documented by Yesh Din took place in areas A or B. The data we collected and analyzed clearly show that wherever outposts are established, violence follows - reaching into Palestinian living areas, villages, homes, and courtyards. The systematic, organized violence carried out deep within Palestinian territory, with institutional backing and support, demonstrates that these acts form part of a coherent Israeli policy: “cleansing” the area of Palestinians. Or, in other words - ethnic cleansing.

Why aren’t we seeing the army arresting the settlers? Because what is happening in Qusra is a clear expression of the government’s policy - annexing as much land as possible while leaving as few Palestinians as possible. In other words, ethnic cleansing. Watch the interview with Ziv Stahl, Executive Director of Yesh Din, on CNN:

[1] By night, the settlers invade Palestinian villages, & by day, they encroach upon their lands. Yesterday, settlers cut down hundreds of trees – some of them hundreds of years old – on the lands of Far'ata, Immatin, Qusrah, Haris, Qaryut, Turmusaya, Jalud, & Sinjil.

In the West Bank, the forcible transfer has begun. Yesh Din and Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) are publishing a new report today. Over the past two years, our staff and volunteers have visited Palestinian shepherding communities east of the Allon road, northeast of Ramallah, dozens of times. These visits included collecting testimonies, conducting personal interviews, and administering questionnaires. We also held information sessions, rights workshops, and medical training sessions and provided medical services in a mobile clinic. Since January 2023, due to Israeli policies and settler violence, more than 1,000 people have been forcibly displaced from their homes, and approximately 100,000 dunams of land were emptied of the Palestinian residents who had lived there for decades. The key conclusion of our report "Displaced Communities, Forgotten People" is that Israel bears responsibility for committing the war crime of forcible transfer of Palestinians in the West Bank - carried out with its support, by its agents or its citizens. Moreover, the state’s deep involvement, its methods of action, the systematic nature of these acts, and their repetition in different locations lead to the grave conclusion that in certain areas of the West Bank, Israel is implementing practices of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Today at around 7:00 AM, settlers arrived in the western neighborhood of #Huwarah, setting fire to two vehicles and a home housing seven people. Neighbors rescued the family members from the fire. Additionally, the father of the family was attacked with stones and wooden rods. The head of the Huwarah municipality stated that the father was hospitalized with skull fractures. As revealed in a document published last night, איתמר בן גביר 's police enable settler violence and fail to enforce the law against it. In the West Bank, armed militias gain strength, while the state is at best dysfunctional or at worst, operating in favor of the militia. Footage: Yesh Din field researchers with village residents.

A settler blocks the entrance to the village of #Yasuf in front of soldiers who stand idly by, enabling him to de facto implement a policy of heavy restrictions on freedom of movement. Thousands of Palestinians use this road, as it is the main route to the city and district of #Salfit, whose routes have been blocked for many months now. This route has been closed and opened intermittently by the military during the morning hours, which already makes it difficult for thousands who depend on it. Since the war began, the military has been enforcing a policy of road closures and blockades throughout the West Bank, disrupting the daily lives of millions of Palestinian residents. This is yet another example of who sets and implements Israeli policy in the West Bank — the settlers lead, the military watches and enables.
