(VERSION 2 because I feel I didn't do justice the other post ๐ ) _________ Hey, SEAblings! Did you know that during the time of the second Hallyu Wave, Southeast Asian artists were already thriving? Here's a massive throwback featuring Malaysia's Vince Chong Vince Chong and Jaclyn Victor Jaclyn Victor and the Philippines' Nikki Gil Nikki Gil-Albert ๐ They were tapped by Disney Channel Asia (before Disney+ was ever a thing) to sing the Asian versions of High School Musical 2's "You Are The Music In Me" and "Gotta Go My Own Way". Now this is NOT meant to belittle Korean artists. I remain a big, big fan of Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin and I wouldn't say no to seeing BTS and Blackpink. I also appreciate Dara of 2NE1 for never forgetting the Philippines. This post is just meant to educate some Knetz who said K-pop doesn't need Southeast Asians (and South Americans in another tweet) to thrive and that SEA folks should just stick with stanning SEApop artists. Go figure. ๐ฎโ๐จ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ Sadly, the posts have gone racist for both sides. But as a Southeast Asian, myself, who has a great appreciation for Korean artistry and who is extremely proud of my Filipino heritage, this video is just a reminder of what Southeast Asian artists have always, always been capable. ๐ ___________ It should be noted that the main female lead of HSM2, Vanessa Hudgens, is half Southeast Asian, herself. ๐ ___________ I am attaching in the comments the full music videos of the songs, above. Sadly, I am unable to find any original Disney Channel Asia uploads of these videos. #SoutheastAsia #Disney #SEApop

Fil-Am rapper & artist RUBY IBARRA opened for SB19 during the P-pop Kings' Pagtatag World Tour stop in San Francisco in July 2023. The two Filipino artists are part of the soundtrack of DreamWorks Animation' 2026 animated film, "Forgotten Island". SB19 Official #SB19

Booking SMDC Festival Grounds for their Trilogy Concert Finale can only mean one thing: They want to do what has never been done by a P-pop group before. It's as if they know that their being good as artists is, unfortunately, not enough to really go global nowadays; that when it comes to talent, there are many, many talented individuals from all over and that they just have to be the standout. It's as if they've come to the realization that the world's largest indoor arena bursting at the seams on two consecutive days in 2025 is not enough to get the world to pay attention. It's as if they don't want to leave any stone unturned. With no disrespect for their fellow musicians, they know they simply need to disallow critics the thought that the outdoor music festivals in their portfolio (Aurora, ACON 2025, etc.) only had record-breaking attendance because other artists were also there. They also know that the producers of the world's largest music festivals, โก๏ธmost of which are held outdoors (Lollapalooza, Coachella, Glastonbury, Summer Sonic, etc.)โฌ ๏ธ, invite talented artists based on their ability to bring in the numbers. If they can pull this off, if they can show the world that they can hold their own in their grandest challenge to date, then maybe, no, POSSIBLY, the world will run out of reasons to look away. SB19 Official #SB19 __________ P.S. My guess is SB19 will pattern their concert based on Ed Sheeran's Mathematics Tour stop in Manila in March 2024. Also held at the SMDC Festival Grounds, his team took advantage of the venue's capability to have a 360ยฐ stage (see attached video). Sounds familiar? Let me refer you to the 360ยฐ stage at their Fast Zone anniversary concert and the same set-up in ACON 2025. โบ๏ธ

So it's only now that I got a full cohesive view of what started the Koreans vs Southeast Asians feud, online. I did know the part about the Koreans bringing professional cameras into the Malaysian concert venue, and though I did see the post featuring the photos/videos of said Koreans, I didn't connect that until I saw the attached TikTok video. And my thoughts given that I know, too, that there were some Koreans who explicitly said K-pop doesn't need Southeast Asians AND South Americans? Imagine if the violation of the concert rules happened, here, in the US. Here, it's common for law/rule violators or Karens/male Karens to be recorded or photographed and shamed, online. Faces of minors are typically blurred but erring adults aren't spared. If that happened, would this same specific bunch of defensive Koreans say that K-pop doesn't need the US considering expansion to the country was one of the major targets of the Hallyu/Korean Wave? And even now, many K-pop acts consider success in the US as their goal. Now I know the counterattack would focus on MAGA + US politics, but I agree with Deanna Aaliyah for saying this (see 2nd image): lt's not about "respecting culture" it's about being respectful in someone else's home. This is the most fair comment about the entire Southeast Asia vs Korea issue that I've ever seen. Had things been reversed, tourists would have had no choice but to follow rules or laws in Korea or any country they visit or risk getting fined, deported, or jailed. Bottomline, no one should defend the violators and things shouldn't have devolved to displays of arrogance about K-pop and both sides throwing racial slurs at each other. Full video here:

Before HSM2, there was HSM1. And in the Disney Channel Asia version of HSM1's "Breaking Free", we also had Malaysia's Vince Chong ๐ฒ๐พ and the Philippines' Nikki Gil ๐ต๐ญ. The two was joined by Singapore's Alicia Pan ๐ธ๐ฌ. 2000s SEAbling SEApop at its finest!

When matty, a.k.a. Matty, questioned SB19's being world class just because her perception indicated they're not synchronized and that their ACON performance was only saved by camera work, aba pagbigyan na natin. After alll, nag-contribute sya ng 1 view to get to that conclusion. ๐ Dahil sa expert opinion nya, lalong napag-usapan ang performance ng SB19 sa ACON 2025. Ang daming na-curious and wanted to see and judge for themselves the performance. Dumagdag tuloy ang nakagusto sa songs, including "DAM" na may mabangis na modified dance break. Ayan tuloy ngayon, the song reentered Billboard's World Digital Song Sales at #9. Kaya salamat, Matty. Nang dahil sa kasisilip mo sa bakod namin at kakakuda, nakatulong ka. ๐ In the meantime, I am leaving you with a clean fancam from @/JustinTime_98 showing several dance breaks. Walang camera work yan ha? ๐ SB19 Official #SB19

Would have been longer had it not been for the audio getting cut during the livestreaming. But beyond that, can I just say this is Super Bowl Halftime Show performance level?! Don't know what I mean? That epic intro to Simula at Wakas. Not quite like Philippine Arena due to venue size but the intimate set-up at San Francisco's Fox Theatre made for a satisfying, almost interactive experience. SB19 ROCKS THE US STAGE SB19 Official #SB19 #SaWWorldTourSF
