what’s always stood out to me in the “we will always walk together” scene from Ragnarok, is that Faye never says she won’t be gone. she never softens it. not once does she tells Kratos everything will be okay. she acknowledges a future without her and then explains why their bond survives it. it’s one of the most mature conversations about death in gaming.

God of War didn’t start with Kratos chopping down a tree. it started with Faye deciding it was time. Faye: - marked the trees that protected Kratos - knew the prophecy at Jotunheim - chose when Ragnarok would start - fought THOR to a mfing standstill - hid being a damn Giant from the literal God of War I’d play the shit out of a Faye spinoff.

the big example she pulled was “who do you want to make out with?” Jesus wept. this is the shit I’m talking about. the standards magically change depending on the aesthetic while everybody ignores what you actually do for 95% of the game. or better yet, the core gameplay loop is called a “mini-game” lmao Dispatch gets treated like some profound evolution of interactive storytelling for doing Telltale-style branching with office management menus and relationship meters. Mixtape shows skateboarding, exploration, music sequences, environmental interaction, and coming of age storytelling and somehow THAT is where people draw the “not really a game” line. be serious.
