Fifty-two years ago today, on 14 August 1974, the villages of Muratağa, Sandallar and Atlılar were emptied of life. As Türkiye began the second phase of the Peace Operation, EOKA-B and Cyprus National Guard forces entered the three villages and killed 126 Turkish Cypriots. Almost all were women, children and the elderly. The men of the villages were absent - held in prison camps or taken away. The dead were pushed into pits and buried by bulldozer. The oldest victim was a man of 95. The youngest was a baby of 16 days. The graves were uncovered on 1 September 1974 before United Nations officials and the world’s press. The footage in this post is of that discovery. Fifty-two years on, no one has been tried for what happened here. This is why our people will not accept a return to living under a Greek Cypriot administration. We remember them.

More videos are emerging from yesterday. In the Greek Cypriot South, members of the far-right ELAM party - protesting the anniversary of the 20 July Peace Operation - set fire to the flags of Türkiye and the TRNC. As the flags burned, they chanted: “Burn it well, set it alight - write Enosis on the wall with the ash,” a call for the union of Cyprus with Greece. In their hands, they carried Greek flags. The footage was shared with the caption: “We’re burning the rags.” At the Metehan crossing, young men dressed in black, members of the Greek Cypriot paramilitary-linked ELAM, were filmed chanting: ⚫️ “Cyprus is Greek.” ⚫️ “Turks out.” ⚫️ “Greek soil will be your grave.” This is who stands at the border on the anniversary of the operation that brought peace to this island. This is the ideology Turkish Cypriots were protected from in 1974 - and it has not gone away.

The Greek Cypriot lobby in the UK, the National Federation of Cypriots, has complained to ITV about a line in Coronation Street. Have you no shame? Are you really stooping this low? A character asked another whether he lived on the Turkish side or the Greek side of Cyprus. That was it. A harmless line in a pub conversation, spoken the way everyone who has been to the island speaks. And you complained. To a soap opera. The two sides of Cyprus are not an insult. They are a fact, recognised in agreements your own side signed - the 1975 Population Exchange Agreement, and the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979. Fifty-two years of talks have proceeded on that basis. ITV then apologised for language it said upset “the Cypriot community.” To ITV: no Turkish Cypriot was offended by that line. Not one. You have apologised on behalf of a community that was never asked, to an organisation that speaks for one side of the island. Your statement is factually wrong. Utterly embarrassing.

Greek Cypriot motorcyclists have blocked the Bostancı and Astromerit crossings today in memory of Tasos Isaak and Solomos Solomou. In August 1996, a Greek Cypriot mob illegally entered the UN buffer zone and attempted to push into Northern Cyprus. The United Nations failed to prevent the incursion. Tasos Isaak was killed on 11 August during clashes with counter-protesters in the buffer zone. Three days later, Solomos Solomou was shot dead while climbing a flagpole in an attempt to tear down the Turkish flag. Weeks later, on 8 September 1996, 20-year-old Turkish soldier Allahverdi Kılıç was murdered in a revenge attack while on guard duty at an observation post along the Green Line. Another Turkish soldier, Burhan Cihangir, was seriously wounded in the same attack. One side’s losses are widely commemorated. The killing of the young Turkish soldier is rarely mentioned in the same context.

Hasan Piker, you’re wrong about Northern Cyprus — here’s the truth. It’s deeply disappointing to see someone of Turkish descent, like Hasan Piker, refer to Northern Cyprus as an “illegally occupatoon" without acknowledging the real history and the struggles of Turkish Cypriots. Let’s set the record straight: The Republic of Cyprus, founded as a partnership between Turkish and Greek Cypriots in 1960, was shattered in 1963 when our people were subjected to massacres. Turkish Cypriots faced annihilation during the continued ethnic violence that followed. By 1974, when Greece launched a coup to annex the island on the 15th July, we were on the brink of genocide. It was Türkiye’s intervention that saved us from total destruction. Since then, there have been 50 years of peace on the island, with Turkish and Greek Cypriots living in harmony as two separate states. As Turkish Cypriots, our identity is not rooted in illegal occupation, but in survival, resilience, and the desire for peace. It’s a shame that someone with such a large platform, and a shared heritage, fails to recognize this. hasanabi it’s time to learn our history and use your voice to tell the truth. #TRNC #KKTC

Ahead of the 52nd anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, a fascist Greek Cypriot crowd gathered at the Metehan crossing, shouting at Turkish Cypriots driving home. Not one “Cyprus” flag in sight - only Greek flags and Grivas flags, whose EOKA campaign killed thousands of Turkish and Greek Cypriots.

“The people of Northern Cyprus deserve to have their state, their institutions and their legal order recognised as a state.” - Maximilian Krah, German MP Speaking to BRT, Krah - Cyprus and Türkiye rapporteur on its European Affairs Committee, and a former MEP - explained why he and Achim Köhler will visit Northern Cyprus despite being blocked twice by the Bundestag’s Human Rights Committee. 📌 They sought to examine the human rights situation on the ground. Permission was refused. Some German parties, he argued, do not want the reality seen first-hand. “They blocked us, but we will still come.” 📌 The status quo is unsustainable, and no more time can be lost waiting on the Greek Cypriots. 📌 Why Cyprus is back on the agenda: Türkiye’s rising power, the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean, and human rights. 📌 The rights of both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots - property above all - must be addressed, and everyone’s human rights respected. 📌 To German politicians: “Raise your voice and demand that the Cyprus problem be solved. We believe Cyprus deserves a solution.”

“A two-state solution is the ideal one. That is where we stand.” During an interview with Anadolu Agency, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan set out Ankara’s Cyprus position in the clearest terms. Fidan said: “We do not recognise the Greek Cypriot side as a state. If you do not recognise the rights of the Turkish Cypriot, then I will not recognise your existence as a state - because you are not the state founded in 1960.” His message was unambiguous: 📌 “For 50 years the status quo has been the same. The stability and peace on the island exist for one reason: the presence of the Turkish military.” 📌 “For us, a solution is essential. The realisation of a two-state solution is what we seek.” 📌 “The Greek Cypriot side will never agree to share the state equally with the Turkish Cypriots. This is as certain as two plus two makes four.” 📌 “The sovereign, equal and independent standing of the Turkish Cypriot is what matters.” His point is simple: the 1960 Republic was a partnership between two peoples. Once the Turkish Cypriots were forced out in 1963, the South could no longer claim to be that Republic while denying the people it was built with.

“GREECE-GREECE-GREECE” “Cyprus is Greek and Macedonia is Greek” “F**k Turkey” Another disturbing chant from Greece’s Independence Day - this time from the Greek army. Greece must respect the sovereign rights of both Turkish Cypriots and Macedonians. Fascism is not patriotism.

Another clip shows ex-CIA officer John Kiriakou reacting with disgust at the TRNC flag on Beşparmak Mountains. For Turkish Cypriots, this flag is a symbol of survival and pride despite decades of suffering. Kiriakou previously claimed 45 mins in North Cyprus made him need a shower & now wants to collapse our economy….
