What must be really irritating Washington is the US lacks the material leverage to bend India like its typical vassals. Whether it is food security, energy security, industrial capacity, broader economic growth or military security, India’s actual dependence on the US is minimal should it come to a serious crisis. As for military coercion through regional proxies, Pak Army is no longer the instrument it was during the Cold War to be unleashed at will. India can inflict serious damage in any scenario. And, for even more pressing geopolitical scenarios, India has already signaled its options for the world to see.
