The EU is in absolutely no position to develop a defence and security partnership with India or anybody else. It is desperately clutching on to the US strategic umbrella without which the whole union and Europe’s political economy would quickly unravel.

What happened with regard to the H-1B visa is no coincidence at all. If you look at it in context, the premature ceasefire announcement by the US at the instigation of Pakistan, subsequently, the felicitation and the fetting of the Pakistani Army chief in the White House, followed by the 50% tariffs which have been imposed by the US and even the Saudi-Pakistani defence partnership won't have happened without the tacit support and blessing of the US. So, in a very systematic manner, for reasons which are inexplicable and ununderstandable, the US is deliberately being belligerent towards India and it does not augur well for India-US relations."

📌 Britain Can’t Rejoin the Customs Union bc Starmer Wants to Keep Donald Trump Happy 👉 Starmer won’t even consider the customs union bc it would “unravel” his trade deal with Trump. Let that sink in. 💥Britain’s economy is flatlining. 💥Exports are dying. 💥Farmers are collapsing under the weight of red tape. 💥Businesses are begging for a customs union. And what is stopping it? Donald Trump. Starmer actually stood in the Commons and said Britain can’t align with Europe bc we must protect concessions given to the US and India on cars and pharmaceuticals. So where does that leave us? 🔻 Stuck outside Europe’s biggest markets 🔻 Trapped in a Brexit tariff regime that helps Trump but hurts Britain 🔻 Watching EU negotiations stall over youth mobility and SPS 🔻 Losing out on major EU defence and industrial programmes 🔻 Still refusing the one fix economists agree on: the customs union This isn’t sovereignty, it is subservience. Britain will eventually rebuild its relationship with Europe. But it won’t happen under a PM who is more worried about upsetting Donald Trump than protecting British jobs.

This State Visit, which transpires less than a year since Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Cyprus and takes place during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, has not only confirmed the enormous potential of our relationship. It has also provided the space to advance it further. We build this strategic partnership on solid foundations, and a clear vision, as encapsulated in the Joint Declaration on the Implementation of our Strategic Partnership we agreed last year, which is already delivering tangible results across key sectors. This growing partnership builds also on the leaps of progress over the past year in EU-India relations, which culminated, in the first month of the Cyprus Presidency, when the political agreement was announced on concluding the milestone Free Trade Agreement. In fact, the Cyprus Presidency has placed EU-India relations, trade, connectivity at the forefront of our work, driven by our vision for a European Union that is truly Open to the World. It is in fact my firm conviction that, in an increasingly shifting geopolitical environment, the EU–India relationship will be one of the defining partnerships of the 21st century.
