A British truck driver who was driving on the restricted Bahir Dar-Motta-Addis Ababa highway was briefly detained by Amhara Fano forces near Motta, in the Hulet Ej Enese district. The highway has been closed to all vehicles except ambulances since August 7, 2025 (Nehase 1, 2017), in an effort to pressure the government to reopen the major Bahir Dar-Debre Markos-Addis Ababa highway, which has been completely blocked for four months. Residents of East Gojjam have been severely affected by the regime’s ongoing refusal to lift the roadblock, which has cut them off from access to critical medical care and markets, leading to a spike in inflation.
