According to multiple sources, a lot of traders are so afraid of tangling with ZIMRA and ZACC there are now very few buses and passengers daring to go to BeitBridge. When it comes to matemba (Kapenta), there is one generally accepted rule: you can only eat them with sadza. This rule is recognized in many places, including Kenya and Tanzania, their home country. However, new generations of chefs are challenging this norm. One chef is preparing a dish of Kapenta and rice, which was once considered a poor man's dish where I grew up, but the result looks well prepared and anything but poor! 🍚 Kapenta are selling for around US$8.50 per 500g and US$16 per kg. On the informal market, they go for US$9 per gallon. Be careful, though, as some sellers offer poorly dried kapenta that have a foul aftertaste, while others may have a sandy texture when chewed. There are indications that Innbucks is in the process of testing a Visa Card, with certain individuals having early access. While this is a natural and positive progression, we believe its arrival won't be earth-shattering, despite claims from some early cardholders. Currently, there are several cards available for making international payments, including the Omari and Ecocash virtual and physical cards. Most people only have a couple of subscriptions per month, often totaling less than US$50. Therefore, any cost savings from the Innbucks card are unlikely to be significant compared to what's already on the market. The main advantage of the Innbucks card will be that users won't need to transfer funds to another wallet, providing an additional backup card to use.
