As a Catholic priest, I hold the Body of... Our Lord Jesus Christ in every Mass. There are always particles on my fingers and sometimes on my hands, but I have the necessary recourse to either the ablution cup or the purification of my fingers and hands after distributing Holy Communion and when purifying the chalice and paten. A question: for people receiving Communion in the hand, what do you do for the particles on your hands or fingers? Those particles are Jesus insofar as they remain true particles of the consecrated Host. As St. Thomas Aquinas explains, the Real Presence remains only as long as the species of bread remain; when the species are so corrupted or reduced that they no longer retain the nature and appearance of bread, the sacramental presence ceases. Nevertheless, even in cases where particles may be so minute that they no longer retain the species and therefore no longer contain the Real Presence, due reverence is still fitting for what was once the Blessed Sacrament and for that which has been consecrated to so sacred a purpose. So again, where do those particles go? (This is an edit to correct my error in stating it is heresy to say micro particles do not retain the real Presence) We know that even the smallest piece of Christ’s Flesh matters, the smallest drop of His Precious Blood. Hence why, in the heartbreaking moment after Mary witnessed her Son be scourged, she proceeded to wipe every drop from the ground. She did not want to leave one drop, one particle, on the floor. What about all the places in which particles of Our Lord’s Body are left unknowingly? It is an honest and important question because we are called to show reverence to the Body of Christ. As a priest, what else am I supposed to be preaching? Is this not a central and valid concern that I raise? If I am attacked and told I said something wrong, I repeat the words of Christ: “Jesus answered him, ‘If I have spoken wrongly, bear witness to the wrong; but if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?’” John 18:23. As St. Thomas Aquinas teaches, the Real Presence remains only while the sacramental species remain. (Summa Theologiae, III, q. 77, a. 4.) Yet this truth should never diminish our concern for reverence toward the Sacred Host and the care owed to even the smallest visible particles.show more

She saw the different levels of Purgatory… and said... even the “lightest” pain would change how you live today 🙏👇 Shortly before her death in 1607, St. Mary Magdalene de' Pazzi experienced a deep ecstasy while walking with her sisters in the convent garden. During this state of prayer, she was given a vision of Purgatory. In her own accounts, she described it as a place of purification where God’s justice and mercy work together. She understood that the souls there already belong to God. They are saved, but they are being purified from the effects of sin and any remaining attachment to it. She saw different degrees of suffering. Some souls endured intense purification for attachments to sin or for faults they treated lightly in life. Others suffered more deeply, especially for sins against charity, pride, or for neglecting their responsibilities. There were also souls who had lived good lives, but still needed to be purified from smaller imperfections before entering Heaven. The suffering was not the same for everyone, but all of it had a purpose. One moment that stayed with her was seeing the soul of a sister who had recently died. The soul was in suffering, but also filled with desire for God. There was no despair. Only longing and trust, knowing that this purification would end in Heaven. Even small sins matter more than we think. This matches what the Church teaches. Purgatory is not a second chance, but a final cleansing for those who die in God’s grace. The souls there cannot help themselves, but they can be helped by us. The Church has always taught that our prayers, sacrifices, and especially the Holy Mass can assist them. Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that this purification is necessary so that a soul can enter the full holiness of Heaven. Eucharistic Procession Stops Traffic on NYC Streets On Oct.... 14, 2025, thousands joined countless religious orders and laity for Napa Institute’s annual Eucharistic procession through the streets of New York City, stopping traffic during rush hour. The free event began at 3:00 p.m. local time with Eucharistic meditations and confessions at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. From a packed Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Mass began at 4:00 p.m., with Cardinal Sean O’Malley as the primary celebrant. Immediately following Mass, thousands joined priests, nuns, bishops, and cardinals for the annual Eucharistic procession through the streets of New York City. Some religious orders in attendance included the Sisters of Life and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. Some of the lay orders included the Knights of Columbus, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher, and the Order of Malta.
