The flames spread to roadside vegetation before moving into the forest. That is a fact. What isn't true is the claim that this means climate change had nothing to do with it. Climate change didn't set the van on fire. It helped create the conditions that allowed a single vehicle fire to become a major wildfire. France is suffocating under intense, recurring heatwave conditions. The Landes de Gascogne forest has been turned into a tinderbox, where a single ignition source was all it took for disaster to unfold. The flames spread rapidly, burning thousands of hectares and forcing thousands of people to flee. The van was the spark. The heat and dry conditions were the fuel. NASA ARTEMIS II MISSION UPDATE The crew and Orion... are approximately 94,117km to the Moon, they're also just over 350,000km away from Earth. They're also travelling at a speed of approximately 2,523km/h, this will start to increase as the lunar sphere of influence takes a hold of the crew and Orion later today. Approximately 41.8% of the mission has been completed. Currently the crew is into the Orion Crew Survival System Suit Developmental Flight Objective (OCSS DFTO) operations, which is essentially a simulated emergency onboard the spacecraft and involves the OCSS suits being donned along with the crews strapping themselves into their seats and the cabin pressure being dropped to 10.2 PSI. This of course is one of many extremely important objectives that is being performed during the duration of this test flight around the Moon. OTC (Outbound Trajectory Correction) burn #3 is also still planned for later today, this is very much subject to change though if NASA decides to skip this burn also. BC, here’s the next update on the unusual bomb... cyclone situation, on Nov 19th. (Scroll for wind forecast) The low pressure system - which is currently roughly 3,200 km SSW of Vancouver island - will race southeast over the pacific during the next 36 hours, while growing rapidly. But the weather system truly becomes problematic as it turns northeast Tuesday morning, where it will completely devour the low in the gulf of Alaska. The storm will explode in intensity, and as pressures plummet near the centre of the storm, winds will explode to numbers more typically seen in tropical cyclones. At this point the storm will be a major bomb cyclone, and will obtain peak intensity by late afternoon or early evening, roughly 400 km west of Vancouver Island. Peak intensify: • Max wind gusts: 185km/h • Min pressure: 944mb Yet the low casts uncertainty over parts of the BC south coast. Northern and western Vancouver island are likely to be impacted with very high southeasterly winds, but southern and eastern sections lay in a zone filled with possibilities. Despite that, I have gathered together the latest data, to create this forecast ⬇️ • Western Vancouver Island: Peak wind gusts 80 to 110km/h, except up to 140km/h near Brooks peninsula provincial park. Timeframe: Tuesday afternoon, through Wednesday. • Northern Vancouver Island: Peak wind gusts of 90 to 120km/h. Timeframe: Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. • Eastern Vancouver Island: Peak gusts of 70 to 100km/h. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 12:17 PM: The start of... the 592 DM heat dome is continuing to move across the Central Pacific and is expected to park on top of Central and Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico by Saturday 5 PM. This particular heatwave is quite interesting because it’s going to intensify significantly on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026, and peak sharply, with temperatures of 96 to 109° by the time we get to next Wednesday. In addition, some eastern portions of the Coachella Valley could reach 110 to 115° is being watched extremely closely especially on Sunday through Tuesday. Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, basin and all valleys, and let's not forget Antelope, Apple Lucerne Valley, including Santa Clarita San Fernando, Moreno, Sacramento, San Joaquin, valley. Solid confidence temperature threshold is likely with this type of large high-pressure axis dome. Important to also make sure everyone’s prepared for the sudden change in temperature as a human body cannot cope with a sudden shift from the 60s and 70s to now triple digits in such a short amount of timeframe. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day feature the most impressive... severe thunderstorm setup I’ve seen along the California coastline in at least a decade. The first round of isolated severe thunderstorms will come ashore tonight, bringing the threat of a isolated tornado and severe wind gusts over 60 mph from the Central Coast up to Humboldt County. The severe weather threat then expands into the Central Valley during the afternoon, California’s tornado alley, with the potential for isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and even large hail. The threat then shifts south into Southern California tomorrow, where isolated severe wind gusts and a brief tornado will be possible. However, Christmas Eve into Christmas morning features the most potent severe weather environment of the week and could lead to a severe thunderstorm outbreak along the coastline from the Central Coast up to the North Coast. The combination of strong low-level and deep-layer shear with sufficient instability is rarely seen in this part of the world. I seriously cannot recall seeing Significant Tornado Parameter (STP) values exceed 3 along the California coastline. The peak threat window appears to be from 10 PM Thursday to 8 AM Friday. It would not be out of the question to see a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued Christmas Eve night with the potential for a couple tornadoes and scattered severe wind gusts. I also believe this may be the first time on record that San Francisco has been placed under a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms in the Day 1–3 NWS Storm Prediction Center Convective Outlooks.show more

Saturday April 18, 2026, 7:50 PM: The latest satellite... shows an incoming robust late-season Pacific storm into all of California starting Monday at 10PM to Tuesday at 7PM. The 545 DM low axis, approximately 240 miles northwest of San Francisco, continues to intensify greatly due to escalating warming of the Pacific, and a piece of embedded impulse from a typhoon near Guam will eject into this system. The main low axis will form a secondary low near San Luis Obispo to western Los Angeles counties late on Monday afternoon. This actually may further escalate the stronger surface cold front that will maintain all way through Southern California especially Los Angeles County. Perhaps even grazing Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties. In addition to this, there will also be severe thunderstorms that will be associated with the system, especially up into the Bay Area just south of Sacramento and Fresno. There could be isolated tornadoes as well on Tuesday afternoon. I'm watching this developing situation closely in the next 24 - 36 hours. This is the 51st lava fountaining episode in the eruption that began in Kīlauea summit caldera in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on December 23, 2024. The lava fountain from the north vent is reaching an estimated 100 feet high above the vent. According to the National Weather Service, low-level trade winds below the inversion level (about 8,000-10,000 feet above sea level) will move the lower part of the plume to the southwest and result in tephrafall in that direction (towards the District of Kaʻū). Above the inversion layer, south winds are forecast, which could push parts of the plume to the north and result in ash and Pele’s hair falling in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and communities adjacent to it. This is a turbine blade from a 571 MW... General Electric gas turbine. It sits inside the hottest part of a machine where combustion gases can reach roughly 1,600°C, while the turbine rotor spins at 3,000+ rpm depending on the grid. At that speed the blade tips are a couple of metres out and the centrifugal load is in the range of something like 10,000+ g or more. And yet this blade isn't bolted to the rotor. It’s root slides into a precision Fir-tree groove machined into the turbine disc, spreading the enormous centrifugal load across multiple contact surfaces instead of concentrating it through a fastener. The hottest first stage buckets are single crystal nickel superalloys like Rene N5 or similar. No grain boundaries, which is what would fail first under the heat and creep The blade is also cooled internally and protected by thermal barrier coatings, allowing the metal itself to remain far below the temperature of the gas flowing around it. At full power you’re looking at 571 MW and about 93 tonnes of natural gas burn rate an hour, that’s roughly a tonne and a half every minute. And the exhaust still contains enormous amounts of usable heat. In a combined cycle plant, that heat is recovered in a heat recovery steam generator, which boils water into steam. The steam then drives a second steam turbine, extracting energy that would otherwise disappear out of the exhaust into the environment. The result is more than 64% thermal efficiency, compared with about 44% for the gas turbine operating alone. For a sense of scale, A single gas turbine installation of this scale can supply electricity equivalent to roughly 600,000+ homes. Sunday, February 23, 2025, 3:00 PM PDT: A significant... shift in the pattern from 90° temperatures in the next 2 to 3 days across much of Southern California and the southwest. A shift in the main Pacific Jet stream axis is just approximately 230 miles due west of the Hawaiian islands and Marshall Island corridor. A series of strong Pacific storms that are trending one right after the other this particular series of storms may produce similar to what we had a couple of weeks ago that brought significant rainfall to our region. I’m watching the details as this emerges this upcoming week as we transition into March 2025. This is also known as the pinnacle of Hollywood’s award season, which is on March 2, 2025, which is next Sunday already. Higher confidence is growing in potential for at least over an inch of rainfall. Possibly higher rainfall amounts first week of March 2025. This still is being looked at closely in the next 24 to 36 hours from San Francisco to San Diego, California. The hardest-hit areas trending are San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles counties. This is the 50th lava fountaining episode in the eruption that began in Kīlauea summit caldera in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park on December 23, 2024.
