Tesla designed the Cybercab so a blind person can... ride without needing any help. And you can see that in the hardware. Inside the Cybercab, the door release has a warning-triangle door icon and Braille that reads OPEN. Lift it lightly and the butterfly door opens. Pull it all the way to the second detent and it becomes the mechanical emergency release, meaning it can still open the door even if the car has zero power. Your fingers can tell you exactly what it is before you pull it. Then look overhead. Between the dome lights is another button. Braille says STOP. Press it and Cybercab requests an immediate pull-over, ends the ride, and connects you with Robotaxi Support. Think about why those two controls matter so much… There’s no steering wheel. There’s no pedals. There’s no driver sitting up front to ask for help. So Tesla made sure a blind passenger can physically find the two most important controls, identify them by touch, and use them independently. The Tesla team didn’t stop there… The doors can also automatically open when your phone approaches it. The Robotaxi app works with screen readers. The seats are positioned around wheelchair height. There’s room in the cabin for a service animal and trunk space for things like a folded wheelchair or cane. Voice and audio cues can replace information you would normally need to see on a screen. Cybercab accessibility is a core part of the product and experience design… Elon even told us the goal is to make sure Cybercab meets the needs of the blind. Tesla even once brought a production Cybercab to the National Federation of the Blind convention in Austin so blind attendees could actually get inside, touch the controls, and experience it themselves. Made a quick haptic feedback prototype for hand-tracking interactions... with a voxel. Felt fun and engaging. It's another level of immersiveness (unfortunately, the video is not able to convey this). Visual design alone can make an interactive experience great, but if you want to make it exceptional, DIFFERENT, this is where haptic design plays the key role. The device on my wrist is from the Hapticlabs.io Prototyping Kit (the thing on my index fingertip is called Linear Resonant Actuator). It's a beautiful, simple-to-use tool. Found a good case for it in my experiments :) To get hand-tracking data, I used the Leap Motion controller (Computer Vision Camera), which is excellent for quick prototypes like this. I saw people experimenting with gloves to build a solid haptic feedback system for XR. It's great for advanced immersive experiences (video games/simulators/interactive entertainment). But for many day-to-day use cases (productivity/OS/media entertainment), having just a "simple" thimble that provides the haptic feedback for the "touching" fingertip will already significantly improve the UX. Hope we will have something like this from our major XR vendors in the near future.show more

My initial problem with Liquid Glass was that it... was terrible for accessibility despite how beautiful it looks it certain places. There is literally only one way to solve this readability issue – make the glass frosted/opaque. And from the public backlash that Apple received it was pretty obvious that it was a matter of time before they made this change. The problem now is that when you make it opaque, it barely looks any different from iOS 18, yet it keeps eating up resources and draining your battery. 3 betas in, and I still feel like this design direction was a big mistake.show more

The owners are apparently baffled as to how the pup keeps getting out, but a quick walk along the perimeter reveals a pretty wild oversight. ​Honestly, it’s hard not to question how someone doesn’t inspect the final work once a massive project like this is finished, but maybe that’s just common sense talking.
