A 34-year-old man is receiving treatment at Katima Mulilo... State Hospital after surviving a lion attack in the Kasika area, Kabbe South constituency, on Thursday. Nsundano Libuku, a local fisherman, said he was herding his grandfather's cattle towards a stream with two friends when they noticed the cattle suddenly dispersing. Upon closer inspection, he reported, they discovered a calf they suspected had been killed by a lion. Moments later, he heard the lion roar and saw it immediately pounce on him. He responded by stabbing the animal on its forehead with his spear. During the struggle, he was injured on his left hand, right cheek, neck, and the left side of his head and ear. He added that the animal loosened from the spear and instantly ran off. Nsundano said they only noticed the presence of a second lion after the first one fled. He also said his two friends could not assist because they had no weapons to defend themselves or him. He was treated by officials from the Nakabolelwa Conservancy before being taken to Kasika Clinic, then transported to Katima Mulilo by ambulance. Steven Kampfer has announced his retirement from professional hockey... after nine seasons in the NHL. Steven was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft after his freshman season at the University of Michigan, and would play all four seasons for his hometown school, winning national championships in 2008 and 2010. The defenseman joined the NHLBruins via trade in March 2010, and made his NHL debut the following season on December 12, 2010. Two months later, on February 12, 2011, he scored his first NHL goal, putting a second-period shot past Tampa Bay’s Dan Ellis. Steven appeared in 38 games for Boston during the 2010-11 campaign as he and the Bruins went on to hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup on June 15, 2011. Steven played 113 regular-season games for Boston before joining the Minnesota Wild ahead of the 2012 trade deadline. He remained with the Wild franchise until 2014, signing with the New York Rangers in July before ultimately joining the Florida Panthers for the 2014-15 season. After his time in Florida and a return to New York, Steven rejoined the Bruins from 2018-21. His final professional seasons were split between the KHL and AHL, and wrapped up with Chelyabinsk this past season. Steven finishes his NHL career with 231 regular-season games played, registering 15 goals and 39 points. Internationally, Steven proudly represented his country as an alternate captain for Team USA at the 2022 Olympics.
