Working on improving Hoolis' "Deaths" with more anims, giving... them more variety, since we had only one animation before. So far we're really happy with the explosive behavior! It makes powerful balls even more chaotic and satisfying to play with. The falling down one is cool too. We also added force modifiers for each type of bullet, allowing to make the standard Death more varied as well. So far it's pretty cool, but when the player uses Pingpong balls the Hoolis should fall faster or maybe have more friction when hitting the floor. What do you think? I'm seeing a lot of people saying it is... just a bad upscaling instead of Gen AI, but it is indeed Gen AI animation. There are things going on in it that just don't make any sense for puppet animation. Here are some parts that make it clear, I slowed down the video so it's easier to notice the chunky parts. Scroll-triggered animations are coming to Chrome early next year... (and we've been really excited about this one for a bit!) 🥳 Unlike scroll-driven animations (already in Chrome & Safari), this API introduces "timeline-trigger" and "animation-trigger" to start an animation within a specific range, rather than relying on the scroller completion *as* the animation timeline. Burned 200k tokens just for "animations" and still AI... couldn't do it well. I tried one of the expert animation design engineer's, Emil Kowalski's Agent Skill on my website to improve animation using Grok 4.5 It analyzed the UI, found issues, came up with a good plan, and iterated multiple times. The end result actually made parts of the UX worse. Also, it never suggested the animation experience I had in mind. So I explained exactly how I wanted it to feel. It got much closer, but still missed details like applying the same animation during keyboard navigation between cards. That silly. The lesson isn't about the model or the Agent Skill. But it's about, "Even the strongest models can't infer your taste yet." They can't and won't suggest it. AI only executes. You have to define the experience with enough details for it to execute. Otherwise, you'll end up with something that's almost okay, but still not what you wantedshow more

The cutscene sequences and the little details are just... sloppy for GTA6, a 2 billion dollar game. Here in this scene, she has no bandana mask on her or on her neck, and within a 10-second sequence, as she was already driving, she has a mask on. It basically spawned on her face, even as Jason puts his mask on himself. She makes no moves to put on a mask before she floors it... and it's just another one of those implausible continuity issues that's jarring to see. It's a "state change" without the animation happening. These kinds of issues, along with animation, SFX, etc are ALL OVER the extended look trailer, and this is what the team thought was good enough to ship for the official look. Yeah, it's nitpicky, but that was the bar and expectation that the developers set for us, and IMO it didn't meet it.show more

The worst take about the web is that you... should not use JS/React/etc because HTML alone is good enough. It's an 'austerity mind virus' that has captured even some smart engineers. The idea that the web is for 'documents' and if it stays in its own little box like 1995 it's going to somehow be better for the world. This is how we ended up with Safari having the most obnoxious limitations, including a back/forward navigation gesture that makes the web feel like a horrendous 'digital book' of sorts. No, the web is also for dynamic, rich, interactive applications. JS is a key ingredient in the recipe, otherwise every click and interaction will have to hit a server, feel slow, and we'll always be a second class citizen. The web's developer freedom & better deployment model will win in the end, but it can't come at the expense of quality.show more
