One morning, an older caretaker named Frank was mopping the hallway when he noticed the kennel door was already open for cleaning. The dog could have walked out whenever he wanted, but he was still sitting on the same gray blanket, watching every movement from the far corner. Frank finished one last pass with the mop and leaned it against the wall. Then he slowly lowered himself onto one knee a few feet outside the kennel instead of stepping inside. "Oh, you don't have to be scared," he said softly. "Come here, buddy." The terrier didn't move. Jack is 20 years old with no signs of... slowing down. He now has a problematic ankle that we are sparing no expense on keeping him comfortable on. Not for our use but because he does not handle life at the farm well. He is happiest with a purpose and just being around the barn. His sister neglects him, and the way he talks about his relatives makes it obvious that his family life is filled with distance rather than care😔 It’s the first time Pete has ever talked about his past, not running from it but actually saying it out loud while someone quietly listens to him. Niran doesn’t interrupt Pete or try to comfort him. He looks composed the whole time, but I can feel his emotions through the silence, the sigh, the way he listens. He is simply lying there but it’s a safe space for Pete to unravel, which is why Pete later says that people feel at ease around Niran.
