If you disable music, you'll hear a man speak... to James over the prison's speakers. I can hear "you've killed somebody", but can't make out the rest. He sounds exactly like the Brookhaven director, so I assume it's him. It's possible he's watching James throughout the game, it's hinted a few times in SH2R and implied strongly in the official SH2 novel. According to the official SH2 novel James gets some... kind of "sadistic pleasure" by repeatedly hitting the monsters, while also feeling disgusted, and his mind feels "clearer". In the game it isn't mentioned, but we can see it through Luke Roberts' subtle yet very detailed acting. We can also hear James crying and sobbing in room 208 in Lakeview. Lots of things hint at the number being important to James.
