The Russian FAB-3000 with Extended 200 km Glide Kit:... A Devastating Precision Weapon The FAB-3000, or Fugasnaya Aviabomba 3000, represents one of Russia's most formidable unguided aerial bombs from the Soviet era, now revolutionized by modern glide kits. Originally developed in the 1950s as a high-explosive demolition weapon, the FAB-3000 weighs approximately 3,000 kilograms (6,614 pounds), with a length of 3.84 meters and a diameter of 680 millimeters. Its warhead contains about 1,370 kilograms of TNT or a similar high-explosive filler, capable of generating a blast radius exceeding 200 meters and penetrating up to 1.5 meters of reinforced concrete. Designed for strategic bombing, it was historically dropped from heavy bombers like the Tu-22M3, but its revival in contemporary conflicts stems from integration with advanced guidance systems. The key transformation comes from the Universal Module for Planning and Correction (UMPK), a tail-mounted kit produced by Russia's Bazalt Design Bureau. The standard UMPK equips the bomb with folding wings spanning up to 3 meters when deployed, a streamlined fairing for aerodynamic stability, and a satellite-navigation system using GLONASS for mid-course corrections. This converts the inert FAB-3000 into a standoff glide bomb, extending its effective range from a mere free-fall drop to 50-60 kilometers when released from altitudes of 5,000-12,000 meters. Guidance achieves a circular error probable (CEP) of 10-30 meters, allowing strikes on bunkers, fortifications, and urban targets with minimal collateral risk compared to unguided variants. The kit adds roughly 200-250 kilograms, including control surfaces and inertial sensors, and is compatible with Su-34 fighter-bombers, which carry it externally on the centerline pylon. Recent upgrades have pushed the envelope further with the jet-powered UMPK-PD variant, achieving an extended range of up to 200 kilometers. This iteration incorporates a compact turbojet engine—sourced from commercial Chinese suppliers like the SW800Pro-Y—mounted in a tubular rear section, providing thrust for powered gliding. The design features enhanced aerodynamics with a curved, sloping tail and lighter composite materials, reducing drag by 20-30%. A 12-antenna controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA) array bolsters resistance to electronic warfare jamming, ensuring reliable terminal guidance even in contested airspace. Released from high altitudes, the bomb rotates 180 degrees post-drop, deploying wings and igniting the engine for sustained propulsion, reaching speeds of 800-900 km/h. In operational terms, the FAB-3000-UMPK-PD has been combat-tested in eastern Ukraine since mid-2025, targeting deep rear-area logistics and command nodes. Its 1.4-ton explosive yield can level multi-story buildings or crater runways, while the standoff capability shields launch aircraft from ground fire. Production ramps up at facilities like the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, with monthly outputs exceeding 500 units. However, challenges persist: the bomb's mass limits fuel efficiency, capping practical range at 150-180 kilometers under load, and vulnerability to advanced air defenses remains a concern. Nonetheless, this evolution underscores Russia's shift toward affordable, mass-produced precision munitions, blending Cold War brute force with 21st-century lethality.show more

🇷🇺 Russia’s Starlink killers showcase new era of electronic... battlefield warfare Russia has ramped-up EW use to detect and jam Elon Musk’s Starlink terminals and satellites, Ukrainian media reports. 👉 Meet Russia’s key counter-Starlink systems: 🔸 Volna Kupol Garant Russia’s latest electronic warfare system reportedly uses a directed high-frequency radio beam to disrupt Starlink operations. Rather than damaging satellites orbiting roughly 500 kilometers above Earth, the system blinds them – cutting their ability to connect with ground terminals while they remain under attack. According to reports, Volna is a mobile system built around six trailers. Each carries a pair of steerable satellite dishes mounted on rotating platforms. A single battery is reportedly capable of denying Starlink coverage across an area of up to 20 sq km. Some analysts say the system was previously referenced under the designation Peresvet-M, although this has not been independently confirmed. Ukrainian sources claim Volna was first deployed during Russia's offensive in the Kharkov region in 2024. They also say its use has increased significantly in recent months. 🔸 Tobol The secretive Russian EW complex is reportedly used to disrupt signals from NATO-linked satellite networks, including GPS, Galileo, and Starlink. Reports claim that Tobol attacks satellite communications on both ends of the link – jamming downlinks from satellites to ground receivers and uplinks from Earth to orbit. Its power and range also allegedly allow it to create an electromagnetic "umbrella." 🔸 Kalinka The system is designed to hunt down satellite communications signals, including those transmitted by Starlink terminals at distances of up to 15 km. It can reportedly track and lock onto even Starshield – SpaceX’s hardened military variant of Starlink. Western media warns that while Tobol disrupts GPS signals on a broad scale, the Kalinka’s precision-targeting capabilities could pose a more direct threat to specific military operations. 🔸 Krasukha The Krasukha-S4 is designed to neutralize reconnaissance satellites, ground-based radar installations, and airborne surveillance systems. It does so by emitting powerful electronic jamming signals that disrupt key radar bands and other radio-frequency emissions. A standard Krasukha-S4 battery consists of two vehicles and has an operational range exceeding 300 kilometers. 🔸 Borshchevik The light mobile system is designed to detect and geolocate Starlink terminals within a 180-degree sector at ranges of up to 10 km, with a reported accuracy of five meters. Using direction-finding and biangulation algorithms, it can locate a target in less than three minutes at a single scanning position. The Borshchevik-2 airborne system hunts Starlink signals from the sky, with reported accuracy down to 0.4 m.show more

If you had a bad day at work, at... least you didn´t f*** up like this past Thursday. During an exercise, a Spanish Air Force A400 Atlas airdropped an armored vehicle. However, the parachute didn´t deploy, and this happened... More info below On April 23, 2026, a Spanish Army URO VAMTAC armored vehicle was completely destroyed during a failed airdrop in a military exercise near Uceda, in the province of Guadalajara, Spain. The vehicle was released from an Airbus A400M Atlas transport aircraft as part of a BRIPAC (Paratrooper Brigade) training exercise. Moments after extraction, the parachutes failed to deploy, causing the unmanned vehicle to fall from approximately 300 meters and be destroyed on impact. Early reports indicate the cause was a rigging failure in the securing straps or parachute system, resulting in uncontrolled detachment. The VAMTAC—an off-road, high-mobility tactical vehicle used by the Spanish Army—was deemed beyond repair, with damage estimated at roughly €600,000. No injuries were reported. Authorities have launched a technical investigation to determine the exact cause of the parachute malfunction.show more

China now has its own “Bolt” — a robot... named after sprint legend Usain Bolt. A Chinese research team has unveiled the world’s first full-size humanoid robot to reach a peak speed of 10 meters per second, setting a new global benchmark for humanoid running. Bolt runs like a body pushed to the limit. Its joints and power systems work in tight coordination, keeping it balanced even at sprint speed. Built to match the build of an adult man—1.75 meters tall and 75 kilograms—it is a life-sized system operating at the edge of physics. Compared with Usain Bolt’s iconic 9.58-second 100-meter world record, which many experts believe may stand for decades, the gap between humans and machines is narrowing fast. Chinese robots are now challenging the ceiling of human performance—much as AlphaGo once challenged Go champion Ke Jie. The breakthrough builds on earlier world-record achievements in high-speed robotic running and marks a giant leap for China in humanoid motion and control. Beyond records, Bolt also carries practical value: robots are leaving the lab and stepping into real-world settings—sports training, emergency response, and demanding industrial tasks where speed, balance and control truly matter.show more

“One of the most complicated hostage rescue missions in... history.” The operation to rescue the hostages from Nusayrat was named "Summer Seeds" and is defined by the IDF as one of the most complex ever for hostage rescue. The hostages were held in a heavily civilian populated area, above ground, in buildings of 3-4 stories. The forces stormed the two separate targets where the hostages were held, with Noa held on the first floor and Andrey, Shlomi, and Almog on the third floor of another building, hundreds of meters apart. Hamas moved the four hostages from apartment to apartment, and the concern was that if the forces only stormed one building, the terrorists would escape with the hostages in the second building. The Air Force gathered intelligence from the air in the last few days, and the IDF and Shin Bet created conditions to reach the targets without the terrorists shooting the hostages first, which was key to the operation's success. The models built by the Yamam (Israel's counter-terrorism unit) reminded senior military officials of the models established for the Entebbe operation, with buildings, streets, and small areas for practice. The main problem was in the apartment where Andrey, Almog, and Shlomi were held, and where Yamam fighter Arnon Zamora was killed. The rescue took place under heavy fire, and during the disengagement, dozens of terrorists with RPGs and machine guns ran through the alleys towards the targets. As a result, uninvolved Gazan civilians were also killed in the dense fire exchange. The military said, "The difference between success and failure in such an operation is a hair's breadth, and we relied on exceptional technology from the Intelligence and Shin Bet. Without ground activity and maneuvering in the Gazan area, it would not have been possible to succeed in such operations." The IDF also noted that the rescue was made possible by Commander Zamora's heroism. "Shin Bet and Intelligence Directorate fighters entered the lion's den in the refugee camp and dismantled houses in areas where we hadn't maneuvered," they said. "This is bravery on the level of Judah Maccabee. The operation was planned for weeks with drills, rescue plans, and fires executed, alongside scenarios of cases and responses." The forces simultaneously broke into the two houses with special weapons developed for the operation. Immediately after extracting the hostages, the forces began to withdraw while fighting dozens of terrorists, but a vehicle with the three hostages got stuck and came under heavy fire. Division 98 forces jumped in to assist in the vehicle rescue battle, and rescue helicopters entered deep into the strip in daylight. Three brigades participated in the rescue battle, during which Zamora was also evacuated to the hospital: Brigade 7, Paratroopers, and Kfir with Flotilla 13, along with other special forces. "The fire plan that was executed was focused but extremely powerful," the IDF added. "The cooperation with Shin Bet and Yamam rose to several levels into a single operational system, under the direction of the Shin Bet chief and the Chief of Staff. Four keys to the operation: deception, surprise, determination, and power." To maintain the secrecy of the operation, thousands of soldiers in the brigades that participated in the rescue were unaware of the nature of the operation before it happened to preserve the element of surprise. Only a handful of commanders were exposed to the operation yesterday, at various levels. These forces were positioned at the correct launch points without revealing the secret. During the operation, soldiers were also lightly injured, mainly from shrapnel.show more
