With this birth, the number of Indian-born thriving cubs has risen to 33, marking the 10th successful cheetah litter on Indian soil—another important milestone in India’s cheetah conservation journey. Gujarat sees a GIB chick after a decade, through... a novel conservation measure - the jumpstart approach, coordinated by the Ministry, State Forest Departments of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and Wildlife Institute of India. Envisioned by PM Shri Narendra Modi ji in 2011 to conserve GIB in its natural habitats including Gujrat, Project GIB was launched in 2016. As a result the number of birds in conservation breeding centres, started at Sam and Ramdevra in Rajasthan, have reached 73 with addition of 5 new chicks in this season and we are moving ahead towards rewilding of birds in near future. In achieving another milestone, a female GIB, tagged in August 2025, had laid an infertile egg in Kutch, as this population has lost all its males long back. In a major trans-state conservation effort, a captive-bred GIB egg from the conservation breeding program in Rajasthan was transported by road over 19 hours in a handheld portable incubator and was replaced in the nest on 22 March. The female completed incubating this fertile egg and hatched it on March 26. The field monitoring team found the young chick being reared by its foster mother. This effort is among one of the many steps to recover the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard populations. TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI RESCUE ABDUCTED NGOSHE WOMEN... IN MANDARA MOUNTAIN Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another significant operational success with the rescue of six abducted civilians and their subsequent reunion with family members in Ngoshe community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The rescue operation followed sustained offensive actions, including recent air interdiction missions targeting terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains. Acting on credible intelligence, troops of OPHK, while returning from a successful overnight offensive operation in the early hours of 1 May 2026, intercepted and rescued six women and children around Amuda—a deserted area between Ngoshe and Gava known for terrorist transit activities. The rescued victims were identified as Mrs. Zainab Idris (18), Fatima Abubakar (17), Maimuna Abdulrashid (24), Muhammad Idris (1), Sadiq Abdullahi (7), and Fatima Abdulrashid (5). Preliminary debriefings revealed that they were among residents abducted during the terrorist attack on Ngoshe community on 3 March 2026 and had been held in captivity at a terrorist enclave in Gava before escaping. During the rescue, troops came under sporadic enemy fire as fleeing terrorists attempted to pursue the escapees. The troops responded decisively, engaging the terrorists in a brief exchange of fire, forcing them to withdraw into the mountainous terrain. The successful rescue operation is also linked to intensified operational pressure on terrorist elements, which has significantly degraded their cohesion and heightened internal disarray. Intelligence indicates that the terrorists are increasingly desperate and paranoid, following sustained losses and the escape of captives, including a 16-year-old girl who had been forcefully married to one of their commanders. Following the rescue, the victims were immediately administered first aid and medical checks at a military facility before being formally handed over to community authorities. At about 1400 hours the same day, they were successfully reunited with their families through the Wali of Ngoshe, Alhaji Shuaibu Dabawa, in an emotional ceremony witnessed by community members. Today feels emotional, heavy, and deeply fulfilling at the... same time. Yesterday, when I came across a video showing the condition of Dasari Narayana Rao garu’s resting place, it genuinely disturbed me. For someone who shaped countless lives, inspired generations, and continues to guide us through his legacy every single day, it was painful to witness. What made it even more emotional was that today happened to be his Vardhanthi. 🙏🏻 Without a second thought, I felt this was the least I could do as his student. By 5:30 AM, along with my family, team members, local MLA Kale Yadaiah garu, leaders, and well wishers, we joined hands to clean and restore the premises. Doing it with my own hands brought a sense of fulfillment that words cannot describe. I must also mention that Dasari garu’s family, who have always shared a close bond with me, were not neglecting the place in any way. They were already planning activities in connection with his Vardhanthi. This initiative simply came from a personal calling and a desire to pay my respects at the earliest. Dasari garu was never just a director. He was a one man film factory, an institution, and a guiding light whose impact on Telugu cinema and on my own life remains immeasurable.
